  • A nice change

I woke up rather early this morning and after having my coffee and getting cleaned up did what I always do. That's head out into the garage and start working on my bike. I farted around for a short time and became somewhat uninterested. After all I do have 2 bikes here that need only plugs and oil to fire up and start using. I also still don't have all the parts I need just yet to complete the bike that's on the stand. SO I decided to get the yard prep out of the way and spent that last 2 or so hours raking the yard and getting ready for the summer season.
I must admit that it was A NICE CHANGE to be doing something other then working on my bike. Perhaps I just need a little break from it.
Does anyone else who is always working on their bikes for one reason or another ever just walk away from it, take a break and do something different and enjoy being away from it?

That happens in ALMOST anything I do! After a while, most things CAN get bothersome and doing something different gives you a chance to clear the mind. I find if I'm stuck, I just walk away for a few days, and when I go back, the problem is fixed.

Its good when you need a break to walk away form something that you have become disinterested in. I have been doing alot of riding lately and decided to take a break. I mowed my yard for the first time and spent a good hour in the backyard just picking up all the deadwood on the ground. We have 2 huge trees and every Spring I have to pick up all the branches that have fallen...now the property is looking good.... time for a day trippin ride...Spring has sprung

Ya that's what I doing. Get the yard all ready and then not have to try to fit that job in later. Just working study at it and I'm very close to being done already.

Oh yeah. This EFI project has been an emotional roller coaster of success and frustration. Just yesterday I found I had wandered away from the bike and started rubbing some polishing compound on my beater/commuter/fun car. A perfect running after new plugs '85 Toyota MKII Supra for $300. Lady told meit didn't run very good. I pulled the plugs to check the compression and there were hardly any plugs at all. Really cool car. Just looks like hell.

I'm walking a fine line right now, but sometimes things get done faster especially when your stumped if you step away for a bit or two.

                  With me,

it's do some woodworking in my basement shop, I just finished a new heavy duty loading bench, and have started a bathroom storage cabinet. In the summer time, I go fishing. Very relaxing, I don't need to catch anything, just being away from frustration is soothing to the soul.

Been raining too much last couple days to do anything else! I'll break away at times and do some yard work, prune trees, weed the garden, go fishing, Help other friends work on their bikes!

This brings to mind the cliche saying, "variety is the spice of life." We always need a change of pace now and then. I agree that when nothing seems to be going right, stepping away for a while always seems to make the problem a lot easier to solve the next day, or just a few hours later.

                          today

today I had been painting stuff for the bike (which looks GREAT) and doing some work on my jeep.... back and forth, back and forth I worked on both and my girlfriend came out a couple of times and was like...." you really aint making any progress huh??" well i kinda took my time on everything since it has rained the past two days and flooded the streets and what not. it was so bad that i had to drive in peoples yards at times just to get my grandma home from the minor emergency yesterday!! it was fun though.... pissed some people off

Yeah I've done that many times myself. You just get to a point with your projects where you have to take a step back and say the hell with it (at least temporarily). Most especially when you hit stops or bigger problems.

                              Hi Rob,
my XS11 rig is up and running, the replacement kickstart spring for my BSA 250 awaits a few hours of my time to install and I'm in the midst of attaching a sidecar to my son's XS750. But today I rebuilt our barbecue. Raking my yard would involve picking up a winter's worth of dog droppings so it's not a job to enthuse over. Hopefully my wife can cope with it. I could always go look for my garage floor, it's gotta be under all those wrenches and bike parts somewhere, right?
