    Re: Repair carb boots

I use Yamabond 5 to do that. They don't look perfect but they look a lot better. After degreasing, I flexed them to open the cracks so I could get the Yamabond down in there. It seems to be doing OK on my 79 standard. I have one new set that I'm holding onto until nothing else works.

    Geezer.

I haven't done this yet, but I might try it when I pull my carbs for the cleaning ritual. Since the inside of the boots are fine, this may be an alternative to spending $90+ to "fix" a problem.

    What do you folks think?

      OK..I give...

Maybe dumb ? But What is yamabond?? Superglue? Or crazyglue?
I have used the superglue for alot of things and it sticks to rubber VERY well ( it will fix a flat and last a loong time)..cept for 1 thing..it doesnt flex and does not ...repeat NOT hold up under any operating conditions (it hates temp changes and specially humidity). Whatever was patched will crack right next to the glue (if the glue itself doesnt)and become a nightmare..cuz the stuff doesnt stick to itself worth a @!#$^%.
If'n I got it wrong and am flyin off I apologize..but...I hadta spout and let anyone within hearin distance know that the "super glue" is for fixin a broken vase.....not your ride.

        Re: OK..I give...

Yamabond is a series of gasket sealers sold by (you guessed it) Yamaha. Yamabond 5 is labeled hardening but it's not like other harding sealers. You can get the engine apart after it's been sealed with Yamabond 5.

Anyway it's black, shiney and sticks to rubber carb boots PDG.

        Geezer

          Thanks for setting me straight

Thanks for the info Geezer. I guess my ignorance speaks for itself.
I just had an ordeal at my work where a guy used some (brand x) super duper bond stuff and cost me alot of time and knuckles.

Yamaha has a line of products for their bikes that are all very high quality. From paint to gasket sealers. All are worth trying when you're in the market for them but some dealers like to price gouge on this stuff and it doesn't hurt to check around.
