  • Gear for fat guys

I ordered a 4X leather riding jacket from an online out fit, since they recommend to get a size up. Everything I wear is 3X. When I got the jacket, it fit more like a 1X. IOW it didnt even come close. Looking around at the site 4X is as big as they go.

So, where does a fat guy get gear?

I prefer to buy my gear in a real store rather than online. Its just alot easier to try stuff on.Many times the gear we wear is made in other countries and getting the proper fit is a hit or miss proposition. If you dont have a local shop to browse then you dont have too much choice. Good luck finding what you need.

      Hey Ivan,

I have a similar but different problem. I'm 6'6" TALL so I have a hard time finding thngs with sleeves that don't look like I'm wearing shortsleeves!

You'll want to shop at sites that have an actual fitting guide with actual chest sizes correllated with their "X" sizes, otherwise, walk away to another site! That's all I can suggest, aside from shopping in person, but shops that are big/tall are also usually more pricey than online.

If you're ever in Oklahoma City there's a place called "BS Unlimited" (they say it stands for "Bike Stuff"). They have a lot of large sized leather riding gear. I wear a 4x normally and they have stuff that fits me. Other than that you'll have to find a local shop. I never trust any size online!

          Hi Ivan,
if all else fails, there's zip-in panels you can buy (can't remember from where) that are a wide strip of leather that matches your mysteriously shrunk in the clothes closet riding jacket. It has a zip half on each side that zips to the two half-zips of your jacket where they no longer meet.

Ivan - I am 6'1 275, & I wear 2xx Long in street clothes. I have a Tourmaster jacket and pants both in 3X. They fit me perfect even with the liners in plus a shirt and sweatshirt underneath. Mine are textile, but I believe they have leather as well and sizes up to 4X. I went to the second nearest Yamaha dealer and tried on many brands to see what fit best. Most brands were way too small.

                Ivan,

I'm 6'1" and weigh 360 lbs. I wear a leather jacket made for me by Bates Leather, a gift from my wife (It was not cheap, but fit's me very well and has a zip in fleece liner.) In warmer weather, I wear a Joe Rocket mesh jacket that I got from Chapparral. They carry a lot of big sizes. I normally wear 4X and the Joe Rocket 4X fits, so their size correlation is pretty good.

                Good Luck,

                Ralph

If your not looking for armour, then you might give factory overloads on ebay, they have sizes right up to tent size (which is what I wear pretty much). They also give measurements for each of their sizes so you can determine what size to order. Their prices have been reasonable too, I just wish they carried armoured mesh or textile stuff, but if you want leather jacket and chaps they carry extreme sizes.
