  • I made a hero today

Took the E out for a short spin this evening, it's been awile since I rode it. Pulled to a red light next to a pick-up. Dad driving and about an 8 year old boy riding shotgun.
The boy starts saying his Dad has a fast truck "bet it can beat your bike".
Dad looks embarrassed, light about to turn green, I rev the bike, ligt changes.... I slip the clutch, revving the engine, but not moving very fast . I make sure the truck stays ahead of me (he didn't realize at 1st what I was doing). I stuck by his rear tire keeping the RPM at 6 or 7 k. Dad catches on and picks-up the pace a bit. They get to the next light before me. The boy is ^5ing Dad and whooping and hollarin'! I say "man, I almost had you guys". Boy (a budding sportsman) didn't gloat or insult. He said "better luck next time". Dad knew what just went on and grinned and waved.
    I turned right.
    Dad's a hero.

Excellent, very well done. Kids need to have hero's in thier lives, and what better hero than thier dad.

I think we might need to start a new thread; "Who has the slowest XS?" I mean heck you got whooped by a pickup truck

Pat, since we are on opposite coasts, the best I can do is "email" shaking your hand.

                Nice job!

                  Well played.

I wish I had someone like you around. It is increasingly tough to be a father and hero. Video games, Harry Potter, and stupid Japanese cartoons with characters that have oversized boobs and eyes, tend to take away the attention from good ol' dad.

So later, when he figures out that he's been lied to all along by his "Hero", and there in fact is no Santa, Tooth Fairy, Easter Bunny, Leprechauns with pots of gold, or family pickups that will beat an XS11.. he'll be in expensive therapy for years.

                    Way to go, Pat!

                      Well Done sir!

Tod, you're a weenie! (Just kidding... that was funny what you said!)

Way to go, Pat! We need more son's modeling after their fathers, who are around for their kids! And even if you can't be around all the time, while you are, be a role model!

That story will stick with that kid and his dad for years to come. As the son grows older and realizes that an XS11 would have spanked that old truck, he'll realize what you did and look back fondly.

Alright, enough of the feminine side stuff...let's back to bikes and...

Way to go, Pat. You just set this fine group of XSives back 30 years.

For 30 years we've tried to prove to anyone interested and, even more who weren't, just how FAST these fine machines are. And, YOU... yes, YOU PAT, YOU blew it!

And a fine thing you did too. But, as trbig said, you've just added another misconception to that poor kids repertoire!
