  • To heck with it, Spring's close enough....

Well, it's suppose to get to the mid 50's here today in New England so I'm taking the girlfriend for a ride today. Finally, after months of winter.

I hope some of you other folks around the Northeast get a chance to get your bikes out as well.

Riding has be put on hold for a little bit for me. Someone is coming to look at my Maxim this weekend so I probably won't ride it again. As for the XS, I'm waiting on carb rebuild kits to come in the mail and then I need to get my hands on a replacement intake boot for carb #3.

        Hi Don,
here in minus 18ºC Saskatoon your post has triggered surges of emotion in me.
Alas that the emotions are those of rage and envy. But my turn will come.
Although I do remember a year of weather so bad I did not plate my bike until June 1st.
Is apprehension an emotion or a mind-set?

I have to say I feel sorry for you guys. I have ridden pretty much every day this winter with the exception of about 15 of them. Those were the ones with too much rain to deal with. Of course that means water rationing this summer, but at least I was ridin.

Many of you may have read in the past that I keep my bikes at Gary F's during the winter so me and my girlfriend had to drive on over to his place in Maine. We took the bike for a ride over to York Beach and up to Nubble Lighthouse. I did see maybe another eight bikes on the road over the afternoon.

After we ate, it was back to Gary's so she could drive my truck and follow me back to NH. Even cruising down I-95, it was so much fun since I did dress for the cool weather....if anything, I over dressed.

Madmax-im....ya, you aren't kidding about those darned frost heaves.

Once I got home, I put the new backrest on that I just got from Ebay. At least now my girlfriend can lean back and be more comfortable.

I was smiling the rest of the day!

I agree with your sentiment there Fred. I do have fairly low minimum temp requirements for riding : +5°C for in the city, +10°C for the highways. One of my co-workers has much higher requirements of +20°C for any riding. He says it is because he's old, skinny and can't take the cold anymore.

We have had a couple of nice days but the bikes are stored in a warehouse. So if I get them out they will stay out till fall. It is still March. That is too early here to have a bike in the parking lot. Read that as I expect one more snow storm.

Now I get to say how bad I feel for you "Northern" guys!!

Just got back from about a 200 mile round trip. Have a few pics to go with it, post them later in the ride reports section. Cool today, but with good gloves, thermals, and a scarf for my neck, I was comfy and warm.

Hope it gets there soon for you all!

The snow is going fast here in central Minnesota. I live in the country with a long gravel drive - well, gravel most of the time, right now it is mostly mud. It will be a little while yet for me. I am working on some carbs for my tripple. I will have to satisfy myself with starting the Timemachine and listen to her growl for a little while longer. You guys eat a bug for me!

Spring like conditions here for the past few days. Lots of the roads were looking inviting. Woke up this morning with a fresh 5 inch snowfall. Bummer it will be a while yet before I get to ride.

Dont need no sympathy although the thought is nice....I enjoy cold weather riding...and it makes me appreciate the true riding season once it gets here. Since new years I have already ridden 2500 miles...all but 200 miles were on the Honda ST1100...I am planning to invade Ontario this coming week
