Anybody see the TV special called Death or Canada? It was a documentary on the potato famine and resulting immigration in 1847. That's when my great great grandfather came over. Never thought about the hardships those poor souls had to endure. Raise a glass to those who got us here!I May Be Crazy, But I Have A Good Time.

I saw part of a different documentary for St. Patrick's Day about the Irish Immigrants that came to South Boston.
In reference to the famine, one thing that really sticks in my head is that they said many Irish people were found dead in the fields with grass stains in their mouths as they were eating grass just to try to stay alive.
Meanwhile, the British did nothing to try to help them with food.

Yes, there still are accusations of "ethnic cleansing" by the British during the famine. The English loss was North America's gain. Lots of stories are still handed down through families and to this day hard feelings still exist. I'm sure everyone would like to see the end of "the troubles".
