So Ivan, would you say the skid marks on the road were more obvious than the skid marks in your shorts?

      accidental wheelies

it also happens when you hit a set of quick sharpies[like a roundabout] and wifies not watching whats going on, you hit the first left lean then into the right ,wifes saying "oh my"--- really loud---, leans right then left and almost like like magic you exit the thing on the back wheel saying "oh my"under your breath while inhaling sharply and trying to look like everything is under control

I had the rear tire break loose on me once last October. I think there was a little water on the edge of the tread, it'll definitely wake you up. mine only lasted a second or so, but certainly got my attention. have a nice day and ride safe

I've had a bunch of those 'Pucker' moments....

              Two come to mind...

First, it was the summer we upgraded from a 78 XS750, to the 11.
Full dresser mind you, taking off from a friends house, I got one of them cramps in my wrist, SWMBO was along for the ride.
Well, the rear tire got a lot of traction, front came up....all the way, enuf' to trip the tip over switch,
I think I was puckered as much as the wife, later the friend asked "Did you mean to pull the wheelie"
I answered, "but of course!", the wife snitched me out........DARN IT!

The second, wasn't even on the bike, although I could give a bunch more.
I was driving the semi, high winds, Really high winds!
took off from a rest area, (east of Ft. Wayne, In) got up to speed on the highway, gust of wind from the south, I was headed west, the drivers side trailer tires, ALL 4 OF THEM, came about 3 feet OFF THE GROUND!
I fought the wind to Ft. Wayne, and figured since I would be headed North, I'd be OK, WRONG, I made the turn onto I69 North, the WIND decided it was gonna change directions too, now from the West!
By the time I got back into Michigan, I had to stop at the ER, to have the seat surgically removed from my rear-end

Course, I wasn't they only one, those poor covered wagon drivers really had a hard time, LOL

I think this is all BS.. you can't do wheelies on these bikes.

AND... Nice pic Ivanstein. Trying to keep us in suspense? I did do a search for image0011.jpg in photobucket and came up with this one.

Was this meant for you? lmao. Maybe she was just using that finger to apply her lip balm..

So true, because every time you do one on your bike I have my back turned! It's just so convenient that you do it when I'm not looking, I think you just like playing jokes on me!

Hmmmm... I guess that pic answers THIS question.. huh!

How old is your rear tire?

Looks like it was almost your WIFE who was about to have to do the bedside vigil.. (Good luck with that, by the way.)

Actually that gal with the birdie is no one I know, and shouldn't be in my album...? It does look, from her countenance, that she must know me from somewhere. I have that effect on the slender gender.

I got a new rear on the XS this afternoon after work. A Dunlop 404 was all I could get on short notice, but it is better than riding on a flat. The guys at teh shop got it done in less than half an hour. The service manager said the bolt that holds the rear pads in place is missing, but it looks as if everything is there. And the brake works well.. so I have no idea what he was talking about.

Thanks for the edit TC. I can't seem to figure out how to tag images on my moblie phone.

Tod, you can get one to rear up if you tug the reigns hard enough. You, of all people, should know that. We all know that seat cover you found at wally world is for extra grip, not comfort, so you don't slide off the seat when you are using the front wheel as a sun visor.

Hey Ivan did you check that little bolt/screw that goes behind the caliper (the side towards the Final drive). That could possibly be the one he was talking about. You would have to look at it from the left side of the bike to see it.

Yep, there is a threaded hole on the inside of the caliper. Looking at it everything is secure without it. The pads are notched and fit the bracket. The caliper is held in by the through bolt. It seems that screw is redundant. It costs $57 and would have to be ordered. It has been missing since I did the final drive swap last year, since it wasnt there when I did that IIRC.

I dont see a need to replace it, unless I am missing something....?

Even though all mine are there, I can't really seen any good reason for it. It only holds the inner pad in place, and it just more more thing that makes changing pads hard (especially the fronts).
