Back in the US Army

Hello all,
I havn't been on here for awhile and figured that I should share some info with everyone.
I have made the decision to go back in the US Army (active duty).
I'm really suprized that they were willing to take me back in at 43 years old.
I have to go through a Warrior Training Course go get familiarized with the changes that have taken place since I was released from active duty 16 1/2 years ago.
They busted me down only one rank so I need to get my stripes back.
I'll be selling what I own in the next few months, doing my training, then back to South Dakota to pick up SWMBO. I hope to get back to Germany but I think I'll end up in the middle east for awhile. (SWMBO can't go there).
I guess that If I'm going to have a mid-life crisis, this is the best way to do it.(LOL)
I'll be checking back here every now and again to let everyone know how it's going and where I'm at.
No matter where I end up, I'll be looking for fellow members of the XS/XJ Owners Association. I will also have my vest with my small and large XS patches. Maybe I'll find an old XS somewhere that needs some TLC.

I thought about going back... but with family obligations decided against it... of course, now that we have two teenagers... might be looking at it again...

Good luck and god speed. Stay safe. My son is also heading off to the military, he decided a few months ago that he wanted to serve so he has enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He's chosen data systems as his MOS. He leaves for Boot camp in late July and it'll be over a year before he will be deployed anywhere. we keep teasing him about being a "nerd jar head". seriously though, stay safe, and I'll tell you the same thing I tell him, If you end up in Iraq or Afghanistan, keep all the important pieces attached, the unimportant ones too! again, good luck and god speed. have a nice day and ride safe REAL safe

Congrats on the re-enlistment

As a fellow Vet it is cool to hear they are taking you back. I thought 32 was the cut off, so you beat it by 11 years. I guess SWMBO should be grateful my midlife crisis only involved an XS11.

Not sure if your re-enlisting was for financial or patriotic reasons.... but I just wanted to say thank you.

I don't personally think I could go back in and have to listen to a 2nd Lt. half my age, with no common sense, tell me to do something completely assinine without telling him where he can put his stupid ideas... but hopefully you won't run in to that many situations like that. Good luck, stay safe, and keep us informed.

Here's an idea....maybe you can get some of the experts in here to give you hand converting your Yamaha so the Army will let you bring it along.

Keep an eye out on ebay for parts.

Being a disabled vet and ex 101st guy, I know it is a sacrafice to serve. And as I have told two of my Sons just before they joined (Army and Marines), it is what you make of it. Serving can be just as mundane as ordinary civilian life or it can be an adventure you could never buy. But one thing is for sure, the dicipline that is instilled is invaluable throughout life.

So to you and everyone serving, Thank You.

I don't personally think I could go back in and have to listen to a 2nd Lt. half my age, with no common sense, tell me to do something completely assinine without telling him where he can put his stupid ideas... but hopefully you won't run in to that many situations like that.

I run into the same thing, I just elisted in the Air Force, and I see 2nd Lt.s fresh out of the academy who are 18-20. I'm 25, as far as I can tell no one takes officers seriously unless they're captains or better.

I've already had an eye opener. While processing at the MEPS, the MSG that did my processing looked at my previous service info. He looked at when and where I did my Basic Training, said, " Well, would you look at that. You went to basic at Ft. Leonard wood. I was at Ft Wood my self. Look here, you were two weeks ahead of me."
Kinda made my wish I would have stayed in.
This go around, I'm going in with a different frame of mind. This is something that I don't have to do. I have a good job with the state with very good benefits and a pension plan. This is something that I want, and feel I have to do.
SWMBO is alright with this. Matter of fact, we're both XSited about our future.]

Unless they have started to TRAIN West Point Grads, watch out for the "butter bars"!! The ONE reason I was only in for 19 months was a West Point Grad who was gods gift to the army. He didn't have to ask the E5 anything, as he already knew it all! I don't know if Cookieman, as we called him, is still in. But as I was 82nd, I don't think you'll have to put up with him, just his younger brothers!
