    Uh oh, not again...

Well, I haven't pushed the '80G into the river, yet, and I can't afford to get it excorcised...

So, like an idiot, I picked up an '80SG the other day!

    $300CDN for a running, 99% complete '80 Special, couldn't pass it up.

It's going to need the usual clean and polish, some tank emblems, brake cleaning, right side front footpeg, battery and a seat recover.

The PO buggered up one of the idle mixture screws and tried to cut down the 'well' to get at it, but the carb is still functional.

The bike has 68,000kms on it.

It has a carrier with backrest, 4 into 2 turn-out exhaust and a windscreen.
Nice day, if it doesn't rain...

Craz...I just finished dealing with a badly stuck mixture screw myself. Even broke an extractor off in it. Wound up getting a local machine shop to use an end mill to just under the minor of the threads, then pulled the choke out and used blaster and heat back and forth and got the rest of it to peel out.

            Best of luck with it!!

No worries there, I had to drill one out on the other XS. I drilled it out as large as I could, then used a reverse drill bit to get the rest out.

I am hoping this one isn't possessed like the other one.

At the very least it will give me one to ride around while I fix the std. I have a cylinder head and valves on the way for that one too.

If I get both working I will have one of each, the special for just buzzing around and the Venture for long trips.

I still have the 1200cc engine on the go, too. Depending on how it turns out I will have a choice of rocket special or high powered tourer.

The other neat part is they are both 1980's so ALL the nitpicky parts are interchangeable ie; regulators, TCI boxes, coils etc, so I should always have one running.

It also means I will have to order another set of upgraded Voltage regulator, SOFCA, and fuse block!

                    What did you miss?

Changed the oil and filter, cleaned the K&N air filter (came with it!) set up the clutch, lubed a few things, flushed the brakes, threw in some Seafoam, and went for a short ride.

Had to buy a new battery, and at first the starter was a bit stiff, but after a few starts it was firing right up.

I will have to get some pictures.

Yeah, it was too good to pass up.

Unfortunately, I had to use the money for my insurance payment....

Hopefully, I get paid pretty quick.

My bike has been sitting for a few months now due to winter. (XS1100SG).

I tried to start it up so a guy who is going to work on it could hear the ticking sound in the left side of the valve area.

I opened the fuel valves, opened the choke, hit the starter a few times as it turned but wouldn't fire up. Then came the waterfall or should I say "fuelfall". The gas came draining out of my airbox.

                          DAMN!

At least I got this guy to do the work for me while the bike is hibernating, much like myself.
