I will talk to the KOA and get a general idea if they can put the XSives in the same general area. I see that Jerry is camping by the lake in the state park and Ray is staying in Atascadero, so there may not need to be much switching to do.

3Phase, why did the KOA matron want a piece of you? I have not heard that story...

You tell me and we'll both know. I think she'd had one of those days and it was my turn to have one, too.

I went to the office to pay my camping fee, grabbed a bottle of ice tea and got in line at the register. After paying for the ice tea I asked her if there was a group rate set up for the XS rally and how much it was to camp for the night if there wasn't. She. Went. Off.

She turned and leaned toward me from the register and yelled, "It doesn't work that way! You can't do that!" and some other stuff I really can't remember because I backed away from her fast, caught completely by surprise. The other girl at the register and the customers all turned and just looked at her and I asked her, "Please don't hurt me!" Everyone had a laugh and she settled back, sort of, but she was still mad. I left the change from twenty dollars for the ice tea on the counter and stayed away from her.

No, unless she has some kind of psychotic episode whenever she hears the words "group camping rates" like Steve Martin's immortal, "Cleaning woman!" I have no idea what set her off.

So, is there a group camping rate at the Santa Margarita KOA?

      Regards,

      Scott

Yeah, just ask the lady at the counter.

I think that if you are camping or are sharing a site, someone needs a reservation, and the rates are the rates...but feel free to ask.

            extra room

Hey Scott, me and the Bro inlaw are tenting it again, so if you, or any other xs'r need a spot to crawl into, the big tent I have is available or bring one. There should be enough site space for at least a couple of tents. Were bringing up Tom's 80 xs11, engine compliments of a good xs'r, the Great One, the Wiz, who just moved to Carolina. So, see you there. I will get reservations at the KOA, so save some bucks and look forward to seeing you and the guys again....Mike in S.Diego

Greets, Mike! How's it going with you?

If everything goes according to plan... I'm in trouble again! I should know by this weekend if this bike and I will be going anywhere this summer.

                I think I can...

I just looked at the calender and the second Wednesday of June is the 10th! That"s when I get my Social Security check, so unless I do something silly like spend it all on bills, I should be able to make it! I may have to share a campsite or share a motel room with someone though.
I sure look forward to seeing everyone.

My recently re-built, hopped up '79 Special caught fire and burned everything from the top of the engine up: gas tank, wiring, seat, & melted my windshield all over the front of the bike. Just bought a 1980 Special that has been non oped for 9 years. My Skoot will rise from the ashes and be re named "The Phoenix!"

Hey guys, mention "XS1100 Motorcycle Group" when you make ressies at the KOA and they will try to keep us in the same general vicinity. No word on being able to move the trash can, though...

I put this in the Rally section:

...will actually be at the Santa Margarita KOA, south of Paso Robles/Atascadero, on California's central coast, June 12-14.

The setting is nice. It is near a lake, offers rural twisties and coastal rides, with some great wineries in the vicinity.

Motel "campers" should try Atascadero or Paso Robles, a few miles north. There is a state park at the lake (less than two miles, an easy walk). One may fish in the lake, and we may have a lakeside gathering, but there is no swimming (there is a pool at the KOA). We should spend part of a ride beachcombing or tidepooling.

I will grill on Friday and Saturday evenings, and cook breakfast Saturday and Sunday mornings, with snackage as needed. Lunches will probably be on the road.

I am getting a Kamping Kabin, and will bring SWMBO and my youngest (no longer little) son. One possibility is that I'll ride two-up with Cail, and Kelly and the ladies can do as they will (wineries/shopping) by car.

There is a more extensive discussion in the Forum Lounge.

                      Hey Loho,
Don't know if SWMBO is coming along. Probably not. I'd be happy to have Cail as a passenger. Sorry that I confused him with a disgusting green leafy vegitable. I look forward to seein' y'all!

Gents, let KOA know who you are and that you are an XS1100 person, and they will group us up a little:

                        reservations@smlcamp.com

Ms. Higuera says that the guest charge that Yosemite levied is not KOA policy and thay don't do that.

I'll still bring my own trash can.

Have my park reservation, will be in Roadrunner 6, not 7 as they said on the phone.

My cell phone number is 970.309.2226 if anyone is going to keep track of those of us not actually in the KOA.

Getting the Connie ready, just put on a higher than stock windshield, getting a throttle lock, have handlebar risers coming...but at least I have the trailer about ready to go!

One drawback...highway pegs are not really in the works, as the Connie has a full fairing and it is awkward to put the legs forward at all. There are a couple solutions but they are ex$ensive and I won't have them in place by mid June.

Here is a photo of Special Ed and Cail from last year's rally:

BTW, "thay" in my last post is a contraction of "that they" which I just coined. Feel free to use it at will.

Jerry, we look forward to seeing you again.

                              Group Rate

I called the KOA and spoke to Sandy. I made my reservation and we get a 15% discount for the group.

Call or e-mail the Santa Margarita KOA to confirm. I've got the 10-tent site reserved. It's near Loho's cabin and should have an extra trash can that doesn't come with any threats or lectures about using it.

Now, I'm off for a nice Saturday afternoon ride just because it's a totally bitchin' day for a ride and I can!

An idea about who is doing what:

Kelly, Lawrence, and Cail in a Kabin
Mike, Scott, and Bro-in-law are tenting
Ray and SWMBO in a Marriott
REFFI and SWMBO in a hotel
                                Special Ed is tenting
Jerry is camping by the lake

                                Is that it?
