    Join AMA?

When I get more time I’ll go back and read your way lengthy post. For now: Hey, if I join the AMA I can’t wear my 1-% patch! Dude, I will be TOTALLY establishment! “Put your best wheel forward,” and all that! I was an AMA member from @ 1960 to 1966. If I paid back membership fees I could have my “49 year pin!” But then I wouldn’t be “cool!” But then, look at all the things I would have to do to be “cool.”

I am moving. More on this later. I have motorcycle mags going back 50 years. AMA, Cycle, Cycle World, Motorcycling, etc. If you calculated the cost of storage these would be among the most valuable mags in the world! But of course I know this is not how mags are rated. Anyone interested? Would like to send them to a good home!

Add me to the "if I'm not working" crowd. Sadly it seems likely that I will be. The new trucking job keeps me busy (a good thing in this economy) and I get to see lots of the country. I wish I could visit some of these places in 2 wheels instead of 18.
Some places I want to visit are New Mexico and Utah. Amazing scenery.

        Now Lemme get this straight....

We are almost surely scheduling a rally for Santa Margarita the weekend of June 12. We'll be coastal instead of postal. I have SWMBO checking her calendar for availability.

        Now, a coupla questions:

Is this KOA gonna charge 'visiting' fees for those of us who will not be guests?

If we choose to take a cabin, what are the accomodations? (I'm afraid I didn't pay much attention last year. Do we need bedding, or what? How are the bathroom amenities. My wife is a self-proclaimed "hotel snob" since she travels on business.)

Looking forward to seeing everybody again, hopefully, with my bike all in one piece.

          Ralph,
I don't know about the "visitor fees", but Paso Robles is about 20 to 25 minutes North, and has a new Marriott that is on the South end of town. There may be a motel closer in Atascadero, or Santa Margarita. These are the two closes towns.
My other half is also a "hotel" person, and she will probably want to stay in a "nicer" place. I'll post once I find out what IS available, and what we chose. It will NOT be like the place in Yosemite!!

"but Paso Robles is about 20 to 25 minutes North,"

Is that Harley minits or XSive minits?
If I may translate, since Ray and I ride together regularly, he means around 50 miles, right Ray?

Actually, it's about 15 miles North. I looked at the map, and checked it against the town I had dinner in December. There IS at least one hotel closer, but there is also a Marriott property in the south of Paso Robles.

I have stayed at the Motel 6 in Paso Robles a couple of times. It was relatively inexpensive and very clean. Most parking is outside your room door. It is convenient to the freeway on/off ramp. I don't know much about Atascadero, but Paso would be OK with me.

SWMBO and I will be coming to the rally. Having checked her calendar, she will request the vacation time. We will be motel-ing it somewhere in the area. If you have access to Road Runner magazine, the current issue features one of their "Shamrock Tours" based in Paso Robles. All the roads look very interesting and I definitely want to go to Arroyo Grande for ice cream (140 flavors, yum).

I'm going to check for motels with proximity to Santa Margarita.

So, are we set on the weekend of June 12? Inquiring minds want to know....

If so I will get me reservation in at the KOA or other local campground.

I have made my reservations for the Rally at the Motel Six in Paso Robles. I've stayed there before and it is a clean place right off the freeway @ Rte 46. I checked around for classier accomodations, but they are either booked or out of my acceptable price range. Sooooo, anybody motel-ing it is welcome to reserve there and we can bike-pool to the Rally.

June 12, 13, 14 in Santa Margarita KOA, near Atascadero and Paso Robles, a little farther along. Lots of back country hills to ride and numerous wineries to sample.

Let's see...we've had rain, and fire...what's on tap for this year? Flood? Locusts?

Loho, the online registration page says, "Great for group camping with people in RVs or trailers." Do we book individually and camp as a group or do they have a group rate?

Last year, the nice lady at the Mariposa campground almost came over the counter at me when I went to the office to pay the fees. I'd really rather not do that again this year.

Hopefully just trout, frogs and crickets, not boils or colored water.

Just got off the phone from the San Louis Obispo County Park system, have made a reservation for Magarita Lake camping.
                            http://www.slocountyparks.com/activi..._margarita.htm
No, its not the KOA, is slightly more expensive ($23.00 per night plus an $8 reservation fee) but overlooks the lake, was guaranteed shade in my assigned spot (Roadrunner 7), and it has the amenities such as showers and a pool that look good. Arrive on June 11, depart June 15. Looking forward to it.

SWMBO and I are looking at motels now. She needs to leave Sunday morning, as she is a volunteer at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. So I think I'll be on the MNS this year and let her carry the "extra stuff" in the car.

OK, I just made a reservation for the Motel 6 #351 in Atascadero, CA. Coupon price for two adults was $68.99+ tax per night. This is CLOSE to the lake, and about 11 miles South of Paso Robles. Rooms are also about $10.00 per night less.
                                I'll see everyone there!!
