I forgot about this thread, Garth ..

You young-boys got all that new techology ... wrist watch TVs, blueberries, dingleberries and such ... the whole Dick Tracy schnizzle !! Anyway thx for bumpin' it up.

Let's see ... bike hadn't been started in 7 years ... so I changed out all the fluids, replaced a right hand control and button, changed carb boots, carb teardown and rebuild with new needles, new plugs. Checked pu coil wires as this bike has over 100k on it ... good.

Also replaced the cam chain tensioner with a rebuilt one that I keep handy for quick change outs .... the PO had apparently tried to stop a leak with RTV only and no paper gasket ... didn't work ... oil everywhere from there ... he also had the oil feed pipe to the head on upside down so it had been cracked and leaking ... had a piece of black tape over the crack ... lol ... oil everywhere on this beast.

Anyway ... when I snapped the tensioner in, it didn't snap real hard. So I pulled it out, checked it and oiled up the slider. Put it back in ... snapped it again ... same sound. Hmmmm .... well ... OK ... must be a pretty good chain and I moved on with carbs .... then just before I was gonna' crank it, Crazcnuk's well documented misfortune came to mind .... I began to roll the crankshaft over by hand ... sick sound ... like chain skipping over gear .... about 90 drgrees .... then ... THUNK .... stopped ... WTF? ... rolled it backwards till it came to an abrupt halt that way ... then forward again ... thunk ... hmmmm .... don't like this much at all. Fiddled with it a bit then just pulled the cam cover off .... sure enough .... crank rolling ... cams ain't .... gulp. Chain on the crank gear well enough ... nuts ... loosened up and finally took off all the cam caps closing all the valves, then rolled the crank to TDC, pulled the cam sprockets and put it back in time .... gulp ... wonder did I make a mistake and bend a valve at some point?. Back togther then and checked comp first thing ... cold ... more than 60psi everywhere ... WHEW ... relief ...pays to be careful .... sure as heck glad I read Craz's thread containing so many consolation posts from others who had run into the same misfortune as he had. Saved my a$$ this time.

Rebuilt and rebuilt the fuel taps again ... back together and VROOOM ... sounds real good ... much younger than it actually is. The original plugs I took out indicated a very good running motor when it was shut off last and that seems to be playing out. The PO told me it shifts perfectly too .... "Never missed a shift" , he bragged to me ... .... still yet to be determined though. Brake system is up for renewing next ... then the seat. Gotta' jam on it fast though ... Carolina beckons .... I'll sell any two of my bikes and keep what's left too ... case anybody's lookin' ...

There ya' go, Garth ... ain't ya' glad ya' asked?
