  • 1978 XS11 E Standard Owner's Manual sought

Does anyone know where I can get a original or copy of an Owner's Manual for my 78 XS11 E Standard?
    Thanks for your help.

I have both the original and the clymers manual posted on my website for a free download. I believe the manuals both start the same for all years, and just have an addendum (included) at the back for later years.
      1980 XS850SG - Sold
      1981 XS1100LH Midnight Special (Sold) - purchased 9/29/08
Fully Vetterized and Dynojet Kit added, Heated Grips, Truck-Lite LED headlight, Accel Coils, Irridium plugs, TKAT Fork Brace, XS850LH Final Drive & Black SS Brake lines from Chacal.
Here's my web page devoted to my bike! XS/XJ User's Manuals there, and the XJ1100 Service Manual and both XS1100 Service manuals (free download!).

I believe the OP is referring to the owner's manual and not the service manual. The owner's manual would have been included with any newly purchased bike. These Owner's manuals differ ever so slightly so essentially they are really one in the same... from 1978 -1984. But the dates on their covers would match them to the correct model and year.

I have the original for mine, it's really worthless. It's just basic info, you'd get more useful info out of the service manual.

Hey Randy ...I agree it is worthless but maybe the OP just wants all the original documents to go along with an all original 1978 XS1100E...then again maybe he means service manual?...If so...then old Floyd Clymer is the best

Good point. He did say "owner's manual". I just didn't think anyone would actually want one of those. My mind just saw "manual" and though of the service manuals. Those I have, owner's manuals I don't.

The Owners Manual's were delivered with the bike and were stored in the plastic compartment inside the left side cover. They provided the owner with a lot of information on the things most owners needed to know. Recommended service intervals, adjustment of suspension, oil changes, brake pad wear, torque specs., drive line oil changes, cam chain adjustment, wheel removal and installation, etc. There is a wiring diagram in it also. They were great for roadside repairs if it does not need major maintenance. A very high percentage of riders do not do heavy maintenance on their bikes. For this a Service Manual is required.

My memory of an owner's manual was that it told you where to put the gas and oil in and that for anything else you should take it back to the dealer and hold out your billfold.
Bear, why do you want one?

Strange, my OEM owner's manual will not fit in the sidecover document holder. The book is about an inch too big in both dimensions. That's one reason why I filed it away, no place to put it!

Most dealers folded them in half to put them in the document holder. I have three of them and they were all folded and were in the document holder.
