Thank God for an experienced Pilot! And they want a mandatory retirement at age 60? Seems to me thery're shortchanging themselves...just a tad. Ahh poor old Shea...I went there many times as a kid..it was always "home" when I was there.1st time was back in '64...they had come from the Polo grounds before that...I go back a ways...1980 XS650G Special-Two

Yeah that one was a miracle. I seen that on the satelite here. It was amazing that no one was lost. When it first came on I thought for sure to hear the worst. But to my surprize I was blown away. I mean first they have not just one but both engines take a hit. Then second they hit the water which should have torn the plane apart because the engines were lower then the belly of the plane but didn't. And third the plane didn't sink thanks to a built in feature that locks up everything in the belly of the plane. That is one heck of a pilot and copilot in my book. Either that they were really lucky. I wonder how many people on that flight went out and bought a lottery ticket afterwards. All of them had luck out the wazoo that day.
But I am glad everyone came out alright.Chris

Luck and Pilot skill...he was smart enough to know NOT to open the landing gear as that would have made the plane sink faster. Plus I had heard something abt the fact that the plane was loaded with fuel and somehow that aided in the plane's bouyancy...definitely a Miracle on the Hudson River.1980 XS650G Special-Two
