  • Astronomical price for hardcover "XS ELEVEN HEAVEN"

I contacted this Amazon seller to ask if this $284.17 price (+3.99 shipping) was a typo. Apparently not:

"Thank you for your email. Our books are mostly used books, out of print books, and difficult to find books. We price our books based on their availability and desirability on Amazon. The book is not readily available and was priced accordingly."

    Here's the listing:

We got ours from Bob Jones (signed... in person) for less than that...
(no... I'm not doing the nah nah nah thing at all... why?)

There are still 4 available on E-bay for $40 from the good folks at Merriam...

        XS Eleven Heaven

Absolutely amazing that someone is trying to get that much! Kind of ticks me off knowing what the Merriam folks have been going through... and someone else trying to profit from it...
but then... what's the chance someone will pay that much for the book?

That's the beauty of our free economy. Supply and demand determines the prices of things. Just like the price of sporting event tickets. If no one buys, then the price will drop until someone does.

I was talking to my mom over Christmas about this very issue. If you moved into an old house and found an Andy Warhol painting (original) in the closet, and didn't know it was desirable, what would you do with it? I would probably throw it in the trash. The crazy thing is that some people would probably pay up to a million $ for it. It's all about what people are willing to pay. If no one is willing to pay the high prices, the value drops. Hopefully, the seller of this book will not be able to get the amount they are looking for from this item, but then again, if it's that valuable to one person, it's their right to benefit from it.

No need to worry, there's more available. I was advised by Karla that she has more than what is listed on fleabay but, due to geebay's rules and associated costs, the number available couldn't be altered until the number shown reaches 0.

So, for all of you procrastinators out there, there's still time and a few more available , just don't wait too long or there really won't be any left.

It's fun to read all the chatter! Bob wrote a book about his time in the Navy. It was his first book, but he never had it published. He improved a lot for the XS Eleven Heaven book. He started on a second XS Eleven, but only got as far putting his stories in several hand written notebooks. Whe I have the courage, I'll start reading them. I was thinking of getting them made into another book, but can't afford what he put out for a hard back. I'll bet some of the club members are in those pages, because I am sure he wrote about the rallies he attended. And not to worry, I still have plenty left if anyone wants one of his first. That's nice to know they will worth a lot of money some day. Karla

My XS Eleven Heaven book has the cover on upside down.

Maybe that would make it worth more...
