Not using salt in CA is why our old vehicles are in so good shape, no salt on the roads to eat them up like in the midwest.

        what I did

I drive a commercial tanker truck and had delivered a load
of ethanol to Colton. Picked up a load of gasoline in Van
Nuys headed back to Lake Isabella ,when I-5 was closed at
Castaic. I turned around in Castaic and drove out to
Fillmore and got a motel for the night. That was about 4
oclock Wed. PM and the road reopened about 11:30 Thur.
morning. Got a good nights rest, had dinner at a new
found mexican resturaunt, you know...just made the best
        out of a bad situation.

6" OF SNOW..? HA HA HA, that is halarious. Driving in 'non-perfect' weather conditions should be on the damn DMV driving test. ANY car can go through 6" of snow.

            "The Mighty have fallen..."

Yeah.. I was laughin' and makin' fun of people...
...till the HY-VO chain in the transfer gearcase snapped two days ago.
Now my Blazer only has two wheel drive... just like everyone else.
I feel like such a... "commoner".

I grew up in the Blue Mountains of NE Oregon, about 15 miles from the Tollgate Ski Resort...plenty of experience driving in the snow...

Snow doesn't scare me...what scares me is the folks who drive like a bat outta hell in the snow 'cause they feel invincible in their 4 wheel drives...yeah it helps...and yeah they have the traction to get going when others may not...but that doesn't mean they can stop any faster than anyone else!

Worst place I ever saw was Coloarado Springs CO, the demolition derby they call Academy Blvd. Scary place to drive.

yes you should have a survival kit in the car, and if you're stuck in the snow and run out of gas and you're freezing, pull out the spare tire and the back seat and make a bonfire...it'll burn a long time and makes lots of black smoke. Plenty of people have died of exposure with all kinds of flammable material right at hand..
