  • The Old Victorian

Been scarcer on the lists than I usually am...I've been sort of anxious and preoccupied since this summer. Now I can say for sure why!

    Lookee what I bought!

Well...that was her around 1902 anyway.

    Here she is now...

She is substantially intact...but needs a LOT of TLC. Sure hope me and the wife are up to the challenge. Maybe we're not. We're gonna try anyway.

Packed full of mahagony, massive French and pocket doors, gorgeous fireplace mantles etc....

(the wife is included in the pic here for scale...that door is nearly 10 feet tall!)

    Good heavens...what have I done!

Being a writer as opposed to just an author (authors write to publish, writers write because they have to) I figured since I was going to be writing about the experience anyway (even if only a journal) that I may as well put it out on the web.

More pictures and details here: The Old Victorian. It's a work in progress of course...and the start of a new adventure for sure!

that house is awe striking .

one beauty of a home for sure.

ps: thats what i try to tell others about the difference between a writer and an author. they still are confused over such.

There was a motorcycle engine in my living room when I got married. Not allowed to do that anymore. Can't run carbs though the diswasher either! What's with that?

That's REALLY nice! Do you have more pics of the inside by chance? The wood detail is beautiful...

Is the house far from where you are now?

                  Congrats Danny.

Much of that old woodwork and style looks good already. Try to maintain some balance and do not stay completely off the bike for too long. It will make some folks crazy.

Is a large garage or out building also in your plans?

Good luck with this new project. Good for you; saving an old treasure.

Wow Dan...I do believe this is the first time since I've joined that you have posted.I could be wrong, but I could have missed it.At any rate your home is awesome.A good friend of mine bought a Victorian home and has spent nearly 10 years of restoring and upgrading. It seems it is always a work in progress. He has done all the work himself and the results have been well worth it.The most difficult thing (so I think) was having the exterior repainted.Three stories tall and many odd rooflines and angles, made it a nerve wracking job.Trying to find a painting contractor willing to do it was almost as difficult. This will keep you busy for a few years to say the least.
The thing about a home like this is the character and complexity of its construction.I can sit in his living room and observe so many different angles that it just amazes me to no end.Best of luck in your endeavors to bring this beautiful home up to par.

No way I can stay off the bike for long. I'm always fixin' something...other folks bikes, cars, trucks, houses...it's just time for me to do some projects for me. It won't keep me off the bike...it may make me less available for some other's projects and I may be calling in some favors...

No telling. I'm around...mostly lurking nowadays. I moved from the Midnight to the Valk some time ago but couldn't leave the community. Occasionally I still have something of value to add...

It's a long term project for sure. I figure I can handle just about everything...I guess I'll have to...money IS an object for me...I don't have a lot to blow on paying other's to do it for me.

                      Should be fun anyway!
