Bought mine in college
I started with an '81 XJ650 that I bought for $900 from my then bro-in-law in 1984. I drove that bike for most of my college days. I'd ride to my local Yamaha shop occasionally for parts. I noticed a used '82 XJ1100 in their showroom in 1985. It sat there until I bought it in 1988. The original owner put 5K miles on it and traded it in for a V-max when they came out in '85. The bike was started regularly, but the brakes were sticking when I bought it. IIRC, I paid $1700 for it in late 1988. She's been with me since.
