  • New Toy

Well here is the new toy I picked up today right here in NC 81 650H, 13K miles and other than dents in the tank and pipes its in great shape. No corrosion and it wants to start but can't keep running. Its sitting with a heavy load of seafoam in the tank and carb just to see it it will run. If not a complete carb clean should clear it up. Tires. seat and electrics are all very good. The price was right and I'm looking forward to running the back roads real soon. I'm looking for a tank for it

Might have had a small dog... but I'd guess young children around the house, though not too young anymore.
    Two battery chargers... different brands.

      Close but no cigar

Battery chargers are the same brand but different models, 2 dogs, one large one small. Thats what the gate was for. Kids are long gone so trick or treat bucket is now used for parts. You get partial credit

        Thanks, Wingnut.

Yeah, when I typed "brand", I thought about it for a while. But, as I had no way of confirming anything, I decided to let it stand.
And my congratulations to you, Sir.

I had a 650Seca. a 1982, the only year it was made. I put over 100,000 miles on it. Was agreat bike. The engine and drive train is the basicly the same as yours.

I just got done messing with a 400, and the pilot jets were completely plugged. It would try and start, but wouldn't similar to what you are describing.

Using a fine wire to open the jets made it start, and eventually new jets made it run well. If the seafoam doesn't work, try looking at the pilot jets.

              New toy's first ride

Let the seafoam sit in the tank overnight and tried to start it this morning. Same as yesterday, fires and then died. Pulled the carbs and removed everything but the bodies from the rails. 3 of the CV pistons were sticking and the enricher tubes in 2 of the bodies were clogged. Cleaned it all up with carb cleaner, reassembled, checked float level using the cleat tube method. Mounted them up and she fired right up. First time this engine has seen heat in 3 years but it pulls real strong. Clutch and trans are real smooth and brakes only need to have the fluid changed. Think this ones a keeper.

I'm only 5'10 and 160 so it fits me real well. It is very light compared to the 1100 and is allot of fun to throw thru the twisties

Thanks Ben, This one was so easy to get running well I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop so to speak. If I can find a fuel tank as nice as the one you sold me for the 1100 to fit this machine I'll be a happy boy. It has 2 PO induced dents that I don't think I want to mess with. This was a well kept bike and very low milage so I guess it should be easy. What's that saying about the blind pig and the acorn?

Thats a nice find.I picked up an 82 Virago this summer ,cheap, that looks great.I had to go through the carbs and fix the starting system.Got it hoping to get the little woman to try riding. That aint gonna happen. But I found it is a blast to ride around town because of the light weight and agility.

Having a bike that SWMBO could ride was in the back of my mind. Way back! Not going to happen. She asked me "what inspired me to buy another motorcycle?" That's OK, I guess but if you have to ask that you just don't get it. Besides my son is already jazzed enought that he wants to name it! If it gets him to come home more often to ride with me it will be just that much the better.

Thanks for the info Poprock. I'll keep that in mind during my search. Any other mods required to instal the 750 tank? It would be sweet to have that kind of range.
