How's this for a great catch!

Apart from my XS11, my passion is Cricket. This is Australia's Captain, Ricky Ponting taking a screamer of a catch at second slip on the forth day of the second test against New Zealand. Gobbildygook aside, check this out.

And not a glove in sight.

So, in cricket, is catching the ball a good thing? Is the batter out?

It's a very good thing indeed...

The Batsman is out. Australia went on to win the match.

        Hi Patrick,
yes, if the ball is caught without bouncing off the ground first.
And like Stralya sez, caught without a glove in sight. NB to Americans, a cricket ball is harder than a baseball and flies at about the same speed.

That being the case, helluva play....

I readily admit, I haven't the first clue about how cricket works. It seems to me that there might have been alcohol involved when they wrote the rules.

I don't understand Australian rules football either, but I really like watching the guy in the white dinner jacket twirl his hands after they kick the ball....

"What the hell is a wicket?"

At first the game seems very strange and foreign. The terminology is strange - batsman and bowlers, wickets, and overs?

However, an American can quickly gain an appreciation of the game as much of it is similar to baseball. Games last between 10 hour and 5 days. Too long? That's what I thought at first. Then it was explained to me that it's really an extended excuse to drink. Five days of BBQ's and beer, while occasionally watching the game. Cricket is starting to make more sense.
This is the explanation that made the most sense to me.

The way the Australians plays football you would think they would put spikes on the crickit balls just to make it interesting.

                      G'day Chrisso

I might not be going unless Balmain Cycles can get a new rear tyre for me. I dropped the rim off last Saturday and I rang them today. They told me it 'should' be in tomorrow and they're closed Saturday so I might be rooted.

As far as the Rugby goes, look at the World Cup! Sorry about that, the AB's are the best side in the World without doubt. Enjoy the V8's, Lowndsie to win. Punter reckons he's OK wrist wise which is good with the Boks on the way.

                      Eels to win in '09.

                      Where in Sydney are you?
