Geez this happened faster than I ever thought it would...actually I've been pushing this since I hit the 900 plateau...before that I figured it would take several years...certainly not the 14 months that it actually has.
I am an original owner of my'82 Maxim XJ1100 as you know as MadMax.There are a few of us here...not many but a few.I bought Max as a leftover model in '83 the last one that a local dealer had in their store.Unlike many of you here my price of admission was the full price of buying new. While many of you would join later on down the road getting your bikes on the cheap...for a song in some cases. It amazes me that I kept him all these years.I've had other bikes come and go and come again but Max never left the stable. While I've known abt these bikes all this time...Only since Sept.'07 did I learn of the XS/XJ community via the internet.Family tragedies in '07 led me to buy my Honda ST1100.Joining that forum I posted abt my XJ1100.A member there was also a member here as he too had both machines. It was he who made me aware of this fine forum.Thankyou Laxdad(Dean). There are by my count at least 3 of us who frequent both sites and own both machines. So we are a small fraternity indeed.
My 14 months here have been interesting, exciting and tumultuous(sp). In my short tenure I've been witness to the generosity and helpfulness of many but most significantly of help have been Randy and TC.The rest of you have given me advice and many insights to the nuances of owning aand working on these truly vintage machines. From threads like "No Surrender"and the Ron Paul thread that got 2 Gurus banned...to the tragic news of fellow members who have lost their lives doing what they love with whom they love.It has run the gamut of feelings and emotions.Surely I will never forget any of them and cherish them forever.
I really could go on and on but suffice to say it hasn't taken me 26 years to realize how much i value you all and how I too consider you all part of my extended family. You'll never really know how much of a void you have filled in my life.So I humbly accept my new status as a Guru and I've finally made it to the PROM-ised land.Ride on my Brothers and Sisters.I look forward to the next family gathering of XSives.Be safe and God Bless

XSives are XSively great people. From the east coast through the mid-lands to the plains, over the Western mountains and clear to the left coast, everyone is willing to do what needs to be done for a fellow XSive. XS11s and XJs either attract good people or they bring out the best in those who become owners/riders of these stalwart machines. Your experience is one that all of us enjoy, both as givers and receivers. XS -- not just a bike, it's a life style!

Yes, well said indeed. Your post says, I am sure, exactly how many of us feel. Congrats to you !

Madmax, I do not want to hijack your thread but after reading your words it seems like a great time to ask all who frequent this wonderful forum, make a donation from time to time so we can all keep this community going.

The thing with getting to Guru is that unless you posted 800 links to Utube or something, by the time you have been involved enough to post a 1000 times, you ARE A GURU! You can't not learn a few things along the way. Congrats on the Guruhood.

Congrats on the achievement. Due to my quiet nature, it probably will take many years for me to reach that level. I just hate fluff posting that much.

                  Thanks to all

Appreciate all the words of support....one thing I'd like to say about "Fluff"...I really object to this term...while I have tried to keep things technical or offering some words of support and help...its darn near impossible to not just converse with others here. Its just comes with the territory.I admit I like to talk...being hearing impaired I do not excel at hearing the spoken word as I do seeing it and expressing myself in a written format...Mind you now I am not criticising anyone who uses this term..so dont be offended by what I am saying here.I feel this is just being part of the community. While I make no claims to be all knowing and seeing,my experiences here have led me the way that they have, and I wouldn't change anything...YMMV

TAD...I concur with you...I have given a donation to this site in the past year...and plan to next year as well.It is a small price to pay for the wealth of information, help and comraderie I have reccieved..so TYVM indeed. And I too would encourage others to do likewise.

I apologize if it came off that I hate all "fluff" posting, my wording could have been better for sure. I quite enjoy reading what people have to say, but am really not good with conversation be it written or spoken. It is just my preference to not post or speak "fluff" you know. I get along better with motors and computers than most people as I usually belong in the epic fail department for trying to express ones self. Those that can, I applaud you.
