  • I'm done.

I know I've said it before, but this time I am finished with this Yamaha piece of ****.

Any vehicle that has such a retarded, essential, routine maintenance item that can destroy the motor does not deserve to roam our streets.

I could finish the rebuild I am doing, but I would never trust the damn thing.

If I feel like it, I may part her out in the spring.

I've been a mechanic for over 30 years, and I have NEVER seen such a useless adjustment as the cam chain tensioners on these bikes. Whoever designed it should be shot, drawn and quartered, and then pissed on.
Nice day, if it doesn't rain...

to be safe with the cam chain ajustment, you could alter the adjuster.
there was a post a little while ago, to alter it with a bolt right thru the adjuster.
i didn't really feel good about that one.
      so here is an idea.
pull out the rubber plug, then thread the hole, not all the way thru, but enough to put in a bolt, with a locknut.

      so when you adjust it
you do it the same way as always, tighten the original bolt.
then when everything is tight and adjusted.
screw the new bolt in just until it touches the adjuster shaft. then tighten the locknut, and you have a positive stop that will not allow the chain to loosen
that will be one of my winter projects this year

Crazcnuk, Sorry to hear you've finally had it. I know it's definitly not from lack of effort. I have followed your posts on the bike from the time I joined, including my "lurking" time. Some bikes are just like that though (P.O.S.). My VTZ was that way for me. Although I have to say to your credit, you have a lot more patience than I would have had. I have learned some much about these bikes just from following these posts. Maybe you could make it a learner bike like T.C.'s and find another. Thanks again for all your patience I am sure alot of us here have learned from your trials and tribulations on this bike. Peace out and good luck.

It seems odd that a person could have SO many problems with a device that consists only a spring, a plunger, and a bolt. I don't see any reason to blame, shoot, torture, or urinate on the designer of a part that seems to function fine for about 99.8% of 11 owners.

If you get another bike, beware! TONS of other bikes use the same (nearly IDENTICAL) design for tensioners.

You treat 'em right, they give you a fun time. You really gotta love these bikes to have them. They are definitely not your jump on and go every day transportation. They are antiques, well antiques that kick A** anyway.

Nope, after 32 years I am done with motorcycles.

I will strip off the hundreds of dollars of upgrade parts and sell them. The rest I will donate to a good cause to sell $5 a hit (with a sledgehammer) tickets on.

Afterwards, we will burn it, and throw my GT750 on the pile.

Then I will sell the Monte Carlo, and that will be it.
Nice day, if it doesn't rain...

Crazcnuk, walk away for a while... Don't do anything rash that you'll regret later. You'll come back to it later and make everything right on the bike.. Sounds like you need a temporary separation not a divorce!

Nope....he already had one months back. Sounds like this time it's for good, especially if he's talking about the Monte Carlo.
