Friends and contacts?

I just clicked on this tab in my user cp and there are some boxes with members names in them and a green checkmark in a box.Also has an empty box that says friend.Are these boxes from these members,like offering a friendship?So I just check the box?

Yeah, it's a new feature of the forums.

Contacts and friends are pretty much the same, except that contacts just keep a list of the people you want on it and a friend sends a request to the other person to add you as a friend.
