Hint: when looking for craigslist stuff, go to your favorite search engine and enter craigslist(your state) Yamaha xs1100 and the search will return listings from all over your state. If you enter craigslist yamaha xs1100 you will get listings from all over the country.

You get a lot of garbage, also, but search through the returned list and you may find something useful.

Why not just go to the craigslist website, and choose your city from the list on the main page? That way, every time you visit, it will remember what you chose (cookies) and only bring you results from that area. No need to "search" for the craigslist website if you already know the domain (www.craigslist.com).

They even have a "motorcycle/scooter" section for narrowing down your search.

Some people live in close proximity to multiple metropolitan areas and I can see where it might be handy to see what is in the 3 or 4 cities around me at a glance.
I know this, because Tyler knows this.

I live far from any metro areas in a town of less than 500 people. When I want to look for something it has to be in multiple areas, so the search on a state level works well for me. Found my "new" (2005 Yamaha RX-1) snowmobile that way....it actually came out of New Mexico but was listed in the Rocky Mountain section of Craig's List.

For those of you who do live in a large metro area, searching a single city makes sense. For those of us who have to travel to find anything the ability to search multiple cities at once comes in handy.

500 poeple?? That's not big enough to even be considered a city! More like a city block!

I have a hard time dealing with all the "tiny" cities here in the St. Louis metro area. The one I live in has 1600 people, and there are 4 city limit signs along the freeway in the course of 1/4 mile - 2 of which are the same city!

I grew up in a small town in SoCal, of just over 300,000 people. It only had 2 scyscrapers by the time I moved away from there. I honestly looked at that as a small city. I had to drive 2 hours to get to L.A. to see a large city.

Hey! We have one convenience store / gas station ( 2, count 'em 2) gas pumps, 1 bar, our post office, a fire deparment with 1 full-time employee (so not all-volunteer!), 1 liquor store / laundromat (no, I am not kidding) and 2 deputies. Nearest market is only 22 miles away, and only 36 miles to the nearest Wal-Mart. Actually, we prefer going to the "big" City Market for groceries, about 30 miles away. Better selection. Auto parts are only about 16 miles away, next to the nearest hardware store. Course, the hardware store is closed on Sundays so plan ahead. The auto parts store is open until 3:00 PM, so break down early if you can.

Nearest Yamaha dealer is about 34 miles away. They also sell kawasaki, but their main emphasis is ATVs and not bikes.

              Ah, life in the boonies.....

Its not convenient or romantic, just a necessity.

Yeah... I gotta have my choice of Wal-Marts. And if neither of the Wal-Marts has what I am looking for, I need to be able to run over to Target or to one of the 3 local malls. I also have to be able to get to the grocery store on my bicycle or on foot if I'm desperate, and I need to have a 24-hour pharmacy within a 10-min drive. I actually have 3 auto parts stores in within eyesight of each other, all within a 5-min drive of my house. I have walked to the International airport to catch an outgoing flight before too... Oh, and every gas station has at least 4 covered, well-lit pumps that are open 24-hrs.

The only problem is that I have no idea where the edge of my town is. It just melts into the next one, and the next one... Most of the Zip codes here start with 631, and the USPS says that if your Zip starts with 631, the only city that shoud be printed on the envelope for your address is St. Louis - regardless of what city you actually live in. All this on top of the fact that the City Of St. Louis is actually NOT even inside St. louis County!
