  • My First Wheelie!!!

Coming home from bike night (the last one of the year, Tod) with a couple of buddies when I gunned it over a small bump. I felt the front lift up so I turned around and tried it again. My friends stopped and watched and the second time around they said it carried the front wheel about 40-50 feet. It felt so awesome! I am gonna try and work on my wheelie skills now that I know it can do it. Maybe without a bump next time!

P.S. Hopefully my next post won't be titled "how I wrecked doing a wheelie".

The XS can be kinda hard to wheelie but once you figure it out, it can be lotsa fun. I have more than once amazed my fellow riders by lofting the front wheel on my full dresser. (See "how to fix a cracked fairing" )

While down in Addison Texas a couple weeks ago with John and Kat, We needed to get from the far right lane, across busy traffic into the left turn lane. My clutch has been slipping a bit, so I gunned it at a break in traffic and expected it to again. Nope... grabbed just fine. It stood the bike up WAY too far.. straight up and down... and smacked my face mask with the instrument cluster and the tank was against my chest. I was in a bad position to hit the rear brake, so I just let off and slammed the front end back down pretty hard.

I don't recommend this... but the fork seals and the forks seemed to hold just fine!(This time..) lol.

If you're going to start doing wheelies... find some replacement clutch parts.

I also did my first on accident. Its a lot easier for me to have a passenger on the back. Trbig is the "wheelie master"

Yeah... but hard to ride them very far with that horrible screeching of profanities in your ear, nails dug into your gut with one hand while wildly swinging and beating on you with the other.

Or at least that's how I imagine it. My riding partner isn't up to that point.... YET!! *Evil grin... Oh... and her parents probably NEVER will be! lol

It's NOT that weird. The pinion gear climbs the ring gear on hard acceleration. The front end tries to lift on hard acceleration. When you lean forward on a full dressed XS11, drop the clutch that ISN'T slipping at all, it DOES feel and look like it "hops" or, actually LEAPS across the intersection. DAMHIKIJK

I do already have all new springs and plates in a box in the garage. This time I wasn't popping the clutch however....just had the bike at about 5k in first then slammed open the throttle. I have tried popping the clutch from a stop and I almost flew off the back. A couple of tries and that was enough for me.
