Carb Sync Tool Info Needed

I have a Morgan and consider it worth every penny especially if you ever want to travel with it.

But I also understand the desire to not drop the money for something that will only get occasional use so here are a coupla links I found.

Well my manometer is almost done. With all the info on the forums here and the questions that I've asked, I felt that its soooo easy that I am having my 11 year old build them.

I just have one more question.

Fredintoon - How much oil did you fill the tubes with? I dont want to put too much in or to little.

It dosen't have to be a sealed system, but be kinda carefull.....

Using water you may even end up with a carbon cleaned combustion chamber.....


I did a carb sync about 10 years ago with a 5 galllon bucket, one gallon of water, a 1 inch socket duct taped to the end of the tubes to keep the tubes in the water, threw four 3/16" tubes up over the 8 foot rafters, attached the other ends to the intakes and fired the old '81 up.........Looked for the water level in the tubes to see how balanced they were and could not find the water level in the tubes.....reved her up a couple of times and still no water level......walked around back of the bike and noticed water spitting out the pipes......old '81 just ran like there was nothing going on! Just a fyi go over 10-12' if you try this method and 2 strokes take about 3' at idle with 3/16 tubing.

I still use this method today and it's amazing how the motor will start to purr once you start getting the system equal. 2 stroke twins will start to make a harmonic sound. That there is enough to make your arm hair stand on end!

I also have the mercury four tube sync tool, but like the water system for fine tuning. Just my personal intup here.

So you went with the oiled filled system? Howdya like the results?
Just looking at the adjustments screws makes a vacuum change, don't it?

I built one and it made the bike run a lot better. The only problems I had was it takes a little longer to get it synced. I also used cheap vacuum lines and as the bike got hotter the lines expanded and leaked at the nipples.

I ended up getting four gauges and making a new one. It works way better with multiple gauges. It is important, though, to check all gauges on one cylinder first, to make sure they all read the same. Also of great importance is to make sure that the bike is fully, and I mean, fully warmed up before doing a sync.

FWIW, the time I have spent on making different syncing devices, I might have been better off buying something like the morgan and putting in an extra hour at work to cover the cost.

Now that's an interesting variation! I'll bet you could add two more bottles, complete with all the crossovers, and you'd have a very affordable, reasonably accurate, and safe sync tool. If the 'bottles' were fairly narrow, they could be fastened together into a fairly compact device.

the fact that you cant suck the fluid into the motor. Im gona build one of these pretty soon and Ill see how well it works.
