  • Hello Texas!

We have been watching CNN reporting on Hurricane Ike.
It looks like Texas got hit hard! I was hoping some of our Texas members could chime in here when they can and let us know how you are doing.
    John? Wildkat?
We are expecting the remnants of Ike to reach us here in Eastern Ontario Canada on Sunday evening.

In the meantime we're thinking and praying for you folks!

I'm about 10 minutes from John and Kat, nothing here but some light on and off rain and a breeze. No big deal to me but along the coast it's probably pretty bad.

      All's well here...

Like Montreux Blue said... we just got some mild wind and a nice steady rain but nothing major... most of the really nasty stuff went east of us...
My brother lives in Friendswood not far from where the eye came through... They were lucky in that they lost their fence and received some water damage... but nothing as bad as we were expecting... They've lost power for what looks like might be three weeks though... and no telling how bad it will get because of that...

Hoping that some of our TeXSives down that way will chime in here (when they get power back)...

Thank you for your concern for us and we add our thoughts and prayers for those having to deal with this mess...

Live on the West Side of Fort Worth
I think we got .23" of rain.

Son lives on the south side of Houston.

He and his wife rode it out.

He and wife and dogs and house made it through ok

They have plenty of gas, canned food, water, and a generator.

They should be good for awhile.

        Thank you for your thoughts

Not a drop of rain here, hit 99 yesterday. News made a big deal of our 39mph wind gust.

My offer still stands if someone had family stuck in one of the shelters, have a spare room and bathroom/shower that 500 other people haven't used. Even if they just want to get away to someplace quiet for a few hours, lemme know.

            Thanks for chiming in!

We now have a rainfall warning here for later today.

I guess I better get out and clean the leaves out of the eavestrough.

Oh wait... you were talking about the storm victims... weren't you?

Hey... there are still some Florida members and other gulf coast area members we haven't heard from since Gustav moved through... Maybe they could chime in here too...

I guess Texas is a lot bigger than I thought!

So is everything really bigger'n Texas?

                  about this Ike...

Blue Giant beat me to the punch. As an ex Tex, and viewing the storm on Fox News I am very concerned about my TeXSive brothers and sisters, not to mention scads of cousins and other relatives! I have a kissin' cousin somewhere in east texas that I sent an email yesterday and haven' t heard from yet.
I'm surprised (but glad,) that Fort Worth and Dallas faired so well. I heared that my old home town Lubbock got 7 inches, apparently in a short period of time. I just know there had to have been flash flooding! I'm sure there will be lots of twisters spinning off of Ike. Hope y'all make it through o.k.

Old bikers never die, they're just out of sight!

My recently re-built, hopped up '79 Special caught fire and burned everything from the top of the engine up: gas tank, wiring, seat, & melted my windshield all over the front of the bike. Just bought a 1980 Special that has been non oped for 9 years. My Skoot will rise from the ashes and be re named "The Phoenix!"
                  I've been riding since 1959.

John and I rode out west of Ft Worth last week... we got about 30 miles out of town and saw a sign for El Paso... still over 500 miles away (and we're already quite a bit west of the Louisiana border)... so yeah... Texas covers a LOT of territory...

And the main things that are bigger in Texas... are egos and attitudes... but there are some pretty big hearts here too...

                              We are OK in Aggieland

I am in College Station, and we were just west of the eye path so we were not on the "dirty" side, but there was rain and wind all the way around Ike.

We got sustained 70MPH winds and between 6-8" of rain!

It is really strange to be in a storm that big for that long.

It was about 16 hours total. We did not suffer any property damage.

We lost a few tree limbs but that's it.
