For a cb radio project. A few years ago I invested in a J &m Audio all in one cb unit for my bike. By far it has been one of the best purchases I have made. The cb is excellent, as well as the intercom and audio input. My friend and usual riding partner invested in a new j&m headset for his original clarion cb on board his goldwing. The clarion had since puked leaving us without communication. I want to stick with cb since I have a heavy investment already. For our last major road trip he went with a midland portable with a cheap headset. At highway speed it was horrible. The radio was very poor quality and did not hold up to the rigors of the road. As this years trip approaches we want to get a new system in place. I currently have a basic cobra 19 radio I am going to donate. The pin out on the cobra mike is simple. We are going to use a few of the orignal clarion plug off the bike and modify his nice jm headset to operate on the cobra with a remote ptt. Now the heart of the project is we want to be able to add an aux audio input into the system. normaly we would just tap the audio, however we want to be able to run the radio squelch completely closed and when a cb signal breaks the squelch overide and mute the aux audio. That way he can run his ipod but not have it overpower the reception. Also need to figure out how to once again mute the audio during transmission to not to overdrive the mike with the audio. Now my Jm unit does it all magically on its own. Is it possible to make this happen. Any ideas or suggestions are welcome. We are both pretty handy with the soldering iron and enjoy a challenge.

To be truthful, I just went with an Autocom unit on my bike. I am able to listen to my MP3, and have the HAM come through when someone is on it. It Isn't cheap, but it DOES work. I only wish I'd spent the extra money for the "top of the line", as it has the auto adjust on the volume...
For a "build it yourself", try and see if Radio shack still has the project books. I'm sure something could be put together with the new ICs that are available.Ray Matteis
