  • Midnight Special

I'm looking at an 81 Midnight Special. Can amyone tell me if the parts would be hard to find. I read where only 250 were made. Is this true. Any information pro or con would be appreciated.

    The Mystical MNS!

    Hey Mystic,

Here's a recent thread discussing this in the Tech Disc. forum, might have been able to find it with a SEARCH for "MNS"...the search function needs at least 3 letters to search for!

The 81 MNS is a bit different, because it was a cross between and XS11 and the upcoming XJ 11, using the swirly mags, linked brake system, different MC's and front brake calipers than the XS's, a different TCI/ignition box....the 4RO vs. the 2H7 units, only made for 1 year, so parts ARE more difficult to find, especially all of the fancy GOLD plated dress up parts.

SO...on one hand, you WILL have a fairly rare machine, but will possibly be a bit more work to get it back into shape IF it's not already in good running order!!?

      '81MNS

I've got one, and have relatively good success in finding needed parts that are basic. Bikebandit and Georgefix have been good sources for either OEM, or reproduction. The gold trim pieces occasionally come up on ebay. From my research, a lot of the '80 will interchange with the '81--check part numbers on both models to verify interchangability. Side covers, emblems, etc. are hard to come by, but are available. Saw an Australian site that reproduces emblems for $47 each plus shipping. Good Luck! Kim

Good looking bike! Cosmetics might be hard to find and expensive if it's been neglected. Not a good first bike for most ladies but if you have experience riding it's a good step up.

Everyone's different. Let us know what you decide!
