      Hi Dave...I 've bought my '81 XS1100SH off ebay and then i drove to Toledo OH...from NJ... rented a trailer to bring the bike home...Took some getting used to ebay but if you buy from reputable sellers(and they are rated)you will 99% of the time get what they state you'll get.My '81 had actually exceeded what I had expected...the original owner took such great care of it...A great find...YMMV.

        Hey FlaDave;

        Welcome aboard.

        Don't be too quick to eliminate a bit of XSive travel in your search for that (XS) pot of gold (hmmm, Midnight Special??? ) at the end of the rainbow. (Awwww, that's so poetic )

        In my case, for one of my XS's, I traveled south about 1100 miles - round trip, cross border (hmmmm 1100... coincidence ) , loaded her on the back of a pick-up and brought her home (oh ooooh... south , her , pick-up , ) . Great Trip, Great Bike, Great Price. .

        Would I do it again? You bet

        So, FlaDave, here's to XSive happy hunting (or is that happy XSive hunting )

          Long drive

          I drove 1500 mi one way to bring mine home in a trailer. Iwould have rode it home, but there was many boxes of spare parts and such, and it was $2000, but it was completely redone from the frame up. It cost at least 3 times that price to do all that.

            Haggling practice...

            I drove 3 hours, each way, to look at my first one-the 79-I figured I wouldn't buy it, but wanted to get a little education as to what was out there. I live by the philosophy that, 'if it's meant to be, it will be.' This was to be a hobby/project anyway so the traveling and looking at different bikes was taken into account when I decided to get a bike. I wasn't even certain I wanted a Yamaha, there were so many different bikes out there to choose from!
            I went up there with an open mind, not expecting to buy it but having a figure in my head and cash on hand, having no idea of how to go back and bring it home later(I was in my car), etc.
            Turned out, he cut the price to less than I had decided to pay(always have that figure fixed before you go!), the bike ran great, needed cosmetics(lots of them, but elbow grease is free and I am the queen of detailing...), and he lives about 20 minutes from where I do in MA(the bike was at his camp)and would deliver it for free that weekend!
            'If it's meant to be, it WILL be'.
            Make it an adventure! You will have the satisfaction of the search, the haggling, and the triumph of your 'prize' finally, happily, sitting in the driveway!
            Good luck and keep us all posted on the progress!

              Wasn't even sure you wanted a yameehammer? The XS1100 inline four is a creation from God! Yup the V-twin is is a proven winner but God decided in the New Testament the 95bhp, XS1100 inline four is perfection extrodinaire! LOL

                  I got both my XJs off ebay. One in PA and one in NJ. Of course, I didn't pick them up (see my location), but my family did it for me as a favor. Both could have been driven home they were in such good condition.
