I got a used fairing and have been cleaning it up. Today I wanted to dry fit the fairing and when I removed my headlight I got scared looking at all the wiring inside of it . I am not sure this is a job I can do myself. I have a new windshield and wiring plugs coming in the mail. I may have bit off more than I can chew. The problem is my bike rides every day and looks good now. I don't want to do anything that will mess it up and I don't want it to be apart too long. I really want the fairing on there. It will look great if I can do this. I am hoping someone can talk me through it.

It's not hard at all. Google craig Vetter and look for the link that has the wiring diagrams. Basicly you just need a volt meter and some time. Really, I figured it out and I'm stuuuuupid"If A equals success, then the formula is: A = X + Y + Z. X is work. Y is play. Z is keep your mouth shut." - Albert Einstein

It isn't nearly as scary as that rats nets of wiring inside the headlight bucket makes it appear, Screamin. All the wires are color coded, both on your bike and in the fairing. Look for the bike wiring diagram on this site and the wiring diagram for the fairing is at craigvetter.com. Click on the fairing link and look for the diagrams.
You'll probably need to remove the headlight bucket, but that's just a couple bolts. The wires will pull out from a hole in the back of the bucket. Leave the fork ears on and just turn them inward so they don't interfere with the fairing. Get a small plastic bag or something to tie up the wiring rats nest that comes out of the bucket so that it stays dry if you get caught in the rain.
