Well if it was a later model then somebody went to a lot of effort to put those old rotors on it! Garry

Thanks, it IS a good looker except for the paint. Looks like it used to be green metalflake, but the sun has faded the green in most places to a really nice blue.
Does anyone know what pipes those are? #1 and #4 cylinders cross to the right and 1 and 2 go to the left, not sure if it's a Mac, no markings.
The ownership says '79, and the frame says made in march of '79.
Have checked serial # and yes it is a '79.
Couldn't resist resist taking it out for a short run to check for any 2nd gear trouble. None found, and it does run good.
Now I've got to resist the urge to take it out again before I can get the insurance paid for...
anyone else got some new pics?
c'mon, let's see 'em!1979 xs1100sf

Nomad,
Sorry mate that is THE next cover to get the treatment, so can't help with the heat situation as yet!
I have seen here in Oz engine enamel clear that I am sure would handle the heat but again cannot say if it would ever "yellow" at all!
I gather that you have some sort of tarnish effect happening on your covers, this can sometimes point to *contaminated polishing mops used on the cases. (meaning used on other materials)
I only use one set of mops for each material I polish.

Hi Stava, everyone else,
I'm not going out to the garage to check, but I think 3X1 is the identifier for the Aust. model 'G', like mine. Built 1980. The only thing that I can see that suggests your's is a G, or H, is the gold plastic tank badge.
I've had mine since 81 and am now trying to find bits and pieces to put it back on the road. Hopefully within the next couple of months. My personal escape machine along the Snowy Mountains Highway!Ray B

G'day Ray,
Yeah on the serial number.....mine is 3x1 also.
How bout that, a fellow excessive within a stones throw!
There are a couple of little things that ensure that mine is a "G" model, actually I was dissapointed at first as I really wanted the original "E" model.
But having ridden "Peg" for a while now I am stuck on her!
My biggest prob is chasing down an exhaust can that will look like it belongs on this bike!!!!
Got some ideas and will be up your way to check out the wreckers for some bits and pieces. ;-)
As you can see from my website I am keen to get her up to scratch!
