I walked out of the bank and what did I see......

My bike on the ground. Yup, knocked over flat on its' tailpipe and handlebars. Only the lady that came into the bank saw anything. A black chevy Malibu that fled into the next door Walmart parking pasture. I got the bike up with the help of another gentlemen, cleared the flooded carbs, and headed over for a quick tour of the pasture. No black Chevy Malibu's. Soooo............
Taking stock of the damage, one broken turnsignal, a broken throttle grip and endpiece, a cracked brake fluid resevoir cap, a small ding in the tailpipe, and a big nasty scuff on my generator cover. Also the cast aluminum handlebars look tweaked. Wonderful.
Guess I should have left the engine guards on.
Right now I'm pretty disgusted with the whole thing, had plans to finally sync the carbs, and get the timing set properly. Wouldn't have been so bad if the jerk or jerkett had at least apoligzed. The bank manager called to express his concern, but that's all I got, not that they had any liability for what happened. Guess that's todays moral climate! Sometimes it seems that there is no accountablity or desire to do what's right anymore. Right now I don't feel like fixing things, it will keep until the weekend. Sorry for venting.

If the bank manager made contact I'd ask if he could take a look at their security footage, many banks have parking lot cameras and theirs may have caught that black malibu's license plate number. I believe this would fall under "leaving the scene of an accident" as property damage occurred and that is a felony!

Ditto on the bank security camera check..If you can get a plate nbr, and still have the witnesses name, and the person that hit your bike actually has insurance.....then they should help you out. Leaving the scene of an accident isn't gonna fly tho since it was on private property and as such isn't a "motor vehicle crash". Sucks all the same. I wish you luck hunting them down.

I think different rules may apply. If I drive into your lawn and run over your stuff its private property but I can still get in trouble.

When I talked to the manager that was what I was looking for, film footage. Unfortunately they don't. Funny thing though, the bank just down the street was robbed Monday, by a guy that had robbed it on the 18th. Manager recognized him and called the cops. They got there and he ran. He stopped and went after the cops with a knife. I heard the cops scored 9 out of 10 hits, this cleared up about 8-9 local bank heists.
I guess it's back to work on the Yellowjacket. Something to do this weekend while SWMBO is out of town.

I agree .. It's a hit and run . Call the cops and they will get the film footage if required. this is why I have a "tip over" alarms on my bikes.Maybe you can catch people like this red handed.

You drive into my yard and wreck my stuff on purpose...yes it's malicious destruction of property. You run off the road into my yard,,yes you "left the roadway" and it would be a continuation of the crash...you bump into somebody's car in a parking lot....sorry. Most big city police departments wont even come out and take a report because it's private property, it wasn't on purpose so it's not malicious, and there just is no crime. You come out of the grocery store and find someone hit your car. You call your insurance company and if you have the proper coverage they'll fix it, under the 'comprehensive' part of your coverage not the 'collision' part because it's not considered a crash.
But I digress because we're getting sidetracked here...I hope you find the sob and take the repair bill out of his hide..but it's no hit and run as far as the law is concerned

Sounds like you both bank at the same location... a few months from now when they think they've gotten away with it, they will be back and your paths will cross again....
A nice crease in front and rear doors from the heel of a boot might just balance the account ...

Accidents like that happen all the time getting on and off bikes in a crowded parking lot like that. Most riders don't even realize they did it...

Yup, that crossed my mind, but what if I got the wrong car? I believe that GM made more than one black Malibu. Nah, not worth it. My guess it was some kid on a cell. They pulled in without looking. I rather spend my energy on getting the bike back up. The wheel of Karma wil turn and they will get theirs. I don't have to do a thing. I was just venting, but I know I'll be more careful about where I park!

Tim...Sorry to hear your bike sustained damage...I fully empathise with your feelings of disgust.It will pass.If I were closer to you ...I'd come and help you fix it up...
I can attest to the power of the good intentions of the people on this board.I've had alot of help from everyone here regardless of their status...but special Thanks go to Randy and TC .Without their help my '82 XJ would be nothing more than a basket case...

Hi Madmax, Thanks for the thought. It would be a sort of long drive from N.J. to here. As far as help goes T.C. and prom have really been invaluble for getting my bike back up. Along with a ton of other members who have had suggestions and hints when I get stuck. That is the funniest thing, The bike got knocked over at the bank where they allegedly have no cameras and Wally World has cameras all over their parking pastures! Isn't that hilarious!! Maybe Wally World should start selling security consulting.

You ain't gonna believe this...

Then again, maybe you will. Pulled into the same bank just as another biker pulled in on his fulldress Harley. As he was walking in with me I mentioned that my bike had been knocked over in the parking slot next to where he had parked. I had just finished speaking, when the car across the lane from where he was park backed out and missed his bike by INCHES. He breathed a sigh of relief and walked in with me. We ended up walking out at the same time and he asked about the damages to my bike. The car parked NEXT to his bike backed up and SQUEEZED between the car in front of her and his front wheel. He looked at me and said, that's the last time I'm parking out there!" I could not believe it. Next time I'm parking on the sidewalk, I do not CARE what they say!! Makes you wonder how often this happens and the bike is tapped with no knock over, or the just miss it by the tiniest margin. This was a BIG SHINEY bike with all the accessories, including a tamper and theft alarm. Guess there is no place to hide. Bike bowling with cars!
