HI, I'm a new XS owner and am glad to have a great site like this available. It's a great help.

I bought a '79 special this winter and have been over everything looking for the typical problems and found none!(Used to have an fj1100 that had the second gear problem). It's really been taken care of except by the last owner who neglected to change the rear brake pads until about 3 mil of the steel on the piston side was worn away. Makes you wonder about some people.
So all i've really had to do was replace the rear disc, and pads all around. A new rear tire will safety her, I think.

So now I have started to search for insurance......

    Good lord.

looks like i'll be paying around 800$ Canadian. I have phoned around to a few places and got quotes in that ballpark from everyone. The two companies that all the brokers seem to be quoting me from are Kingsway and Jevco.
My driving record is perfect and have been riding and insured on bikes for 15 yrs. (34 yrs old).

I have a policy now with Kingsway on a 1972 cb500 four that runs out in may that cost 270$. They told me it would be 810$ for the 1100.

Any Canadians out there who could point me in the direction of a good company? If you don't mind, could some of you guys tell me what you guys are paying?

This is outrageous. I am fumed.... AAARRRGGGGHHHH!!!!

Check these guys out. I haven't dealt with them yet myself, but a buddy of mine claims he saved about $300 bucks for his XS.

Almost forgot.. inquire about any discounts. They give discounts for employees of certain companies, as well as for other things.

              Insurance

              Hi!
Don't know if the company I use insures in Canada but I think
You should give it a try. Couldn't hurt!
While I only carry liability on XSTin and God forbid something should happen. I don't think I could rebuild for less than buying another one and using her for parts.

I Tried your Personal Ins. Co. Of Canada, and they gave me a quote of 840$ for the bike only, and around 650$ if I insure my car with them aswell. So the price with the car and bike would be 1139$,,,,, not too bad... I also gave him the name of the site when he asked where I was refered from, he was eager to check it out.

Checked out a place called "Rideres Plus Insurance" http://www.ridersplus.com/

They gave me a price of of 860$ through Kingsway of all places.
Then they told me that if I buy an online subscription for 30$ to some online motorcycle consumer guide (probably some spamming operation, they wanted my e-mail but didn't get it yet) they could give it to me for 618 +1%. That sounds like a pretty good deal.

Another good deal was Primmum http://primmum.com/
They have an online quote process that looks exactly like the one on the TD website, and gave me the same excact quote of 855$. A woman at work says that her husband has a Bandit 1200 with Primmum for 540$. I guess they are legit. Best price so far. Cool.

Yes , It's nice to see someone else from Oshawa, T1ny.
Your profile says you play guitar, ever use that computer to record anything? I play aswell, maybe we could trade some sound files or something.

                THANKYOUVERYMUCH

Yeah I'm currently recording a bunch of songs I wrote over the last 15 years. I'm not using the computer for much though, I'm using a digital tascam multi track, (8 track, 255 virtual tracks). My main problem is lack of time and the fact that I'm a very poor guitar player, but I'm having a blast and that's the main thing right?

I incorrectly stated above that Primmum gave me a quote for 855$, that should have been 588$.... ooops.

Thanks, Doug. Wow, nice price you found there.

Looked at there site, it's pretty cool. Got a list of brokers closest to my house. will phone some of them tomorrow and see if they will do it..

You can check on the site to see what kind of insurance they offer from province to province, Ontario and New Brunswick had "recreational vehicles" not motorcycles.

Strange though ..... I know I have already contacted some of the brokers on the list, and none of them said anything about ING.
I will call around and see If I can stir something up...

                          Thanks again.

Targetman - just be glad you're not living out here on the wet coast, or for that matter, anywhere in BC. With our government (mandatory) insurance, the annual premium for Tsunami is a cool $1117. Tack on an additional $406 to boost the 3rd party liability to 5 million and you're sitting at $1523 for a full year. And, that does not include any collision or comprehensive coverage.

The only good part is that SWMBO and I both qualify for 43% discounts (10 years or more claim-free) , and only have a six month riding season, so we end up closer to $450 for aech bike once you add in a partial-year surcharge......

WOW Guys!!!! and I was complaining about $165 USD for annual liability on my 80SG, I'll never say another word about it.

                              Happy to be in Missouri,
