I know the feeling, as does most of the folks here.
I have done the retro trip myself. Had a new 80G, had three bikes in between but could never lose or forget my love for these machines. I saw this web site and joined, a month or two later convinced I was doing the right thing bought a cherry 80SG. Yes the thrill of riding an XS1100 is better than.....fill in the blank
fine, my friend, Super fine, and welcome to the gang(group?). XS's are addictive, but I also think that there is a certain personality type that it addicts. We just don't march to the tune of a different drummer, we are the drummer and we wrote the tune!

Life is like a coin, you can choose to spend it any way you wish, but you can only spend it once. Make your choices wisely.
Wow! That is beautiful!
You should be very proud of it.
Here's hoping the weather cools a little for you and you can go tear up some blacktop.
Otherwise you just kinda mush it around...wont tear at that temp!!
Don't let the high temps keep you from riding... at least by the time you get where you're going... you'll be evenly cooked...
Nice looking scoot! I'd like to see some close up pics of the paint if you get a chance...

If I can make at least one person smile, or pee their pants a little, or maybe spit out their drink; then my day is not wasted.
There are a large number of us who have taken a 20 year hiatus from the 1100 but have never not heard that call off in the distance to come back. Glad you were able to find such a fine example to stifle that little voice that was speaking to you all this time. You can't beat that area for finding old stuff with no rust! There's a great motorcycle salvage yard down off of 19th street (IIRC) called Bill's cycle salvage if you need parts. I've bought stuff there to fix up a couple of bikes that were ravaged living here in the swamp. He's a little proud of his stuff but you can deal with him. I've been going to Phoenix a couple of times a year for the last 20 years and always thought that an oil cooler would be mandatory in those temps. Again welcome to the group and enjoy the ride

John,
I read about the tip over outside the bank. It means much more to me having heard of your long awaited return and seeing photo of your bike. So sorry. Do not despair, can be fixed. Some fine examples of XS11's here have been "rescued".
Great bunch of folks here. Come to a rally. Bring Susan if she will.
It is a great big beautiful world out there

Brent, It wasn't mine that bit the dust - thankfully, but thanks for the condolences anyway
By what I am seeing around, I got pretty lucky with my purchase. Not even a hint of rust and the last 2 owners have looked after it like it was their child - and I will continue the tradition.
It needs a couple of things to clean up 100% - I noticed the sound system rattles around in the mounting somewhat and the speakers have been rained through, so they need replacingand a very, very slight oil presence at the cam chain plug.. I'll look at that later.
Look for pix tomorrow - we have a cool spell coming through so it will only be 104.. a little like putting blow dryers 2 inches from your eyes on HOT... (and that's just walking TO the bike)
I certainly noticed the smaller fuel tank though, but I'll take it...
