don't get me wrong i like 4 bangers but they don't need to be louder than a rock concert.i do have a very unpopular car.who the hell suppes up a 89 dodge spirit.i have custom 2 1/2" exhaust with magnaflow but it is not loud unless above 5k rpm's.custom built 2.5 4 banger, eibach springs,5 speed stick, ect, and i have a turbo moter to put in.but the car has alot of sintamental value to the wife.it has been in her family since brand new.

I live in the country - never bothered this way. My brother-in-law who lives on the 10 acres over from me will step out the back door and shoot one of his rifles once in a while (make me nearly jump out of my shorts), and then there is the pop - pop - pop of a John Deer once in a while

I'll be damned if I don't have to deal with one of the idiots daily on the commute to and from work, mostly in the pm.

If you are going 70, they got to pass you and pull in front of you. During rush hour they are darting in and out of lane like they are on a 600. These are the as&*(&^% that you got to look out for.
On the other hand these are the same butt holes that I like to pass and wave good bye to as I wind out. It seems that just because they have a loud muffler that their car is an instant race car. It really jerks their chain when you blow them away. lol
I used to be a kid too. But at least I had a big block, or at least a v-8.
The funniest sounding Car is the subaru's with that boxer four. Sounds weird. But above all the Honda's hold the record for the loudest piece of trash on the road. Just a loud muffler with no motor work. Once in a while you come across a NOS Honda, but they still don't out pull the XS
I like to pull up to them in my 300zxTT(the kind of car they "wish" they had) and release my blow off valve next to them, Or if they have it punched, a quick 1/4 inch twitch of my foot and they have to squint to see my rear bumper
And mine isn't even half as loud as theres and its the real deal
Sry guys, but after 100mph even the xs11 don't have a prayer

Oh Dave, that 300Z twin turbo brings back memories! I once raced one about 10 years ago in my Eagle Talon Tsi AWD turbo. We were both pretty much evenly matched, weaving through traffic at over 100 mph. Of course mine had the stock sleeper look and quite exhaust. If only we lived closer we could have had fun!

              Sorry DavesXS

I disagree. Maybe above 130 mph. I raced one of those 300 ZX, maybe it didn't have the turbo's. But the one I raced...with the ole lady on the back, I led from the stop light and it went back and forth until about 90 just before the fourth gear shift,, and creeped away from him. It was funny he was beating on his steering wheel, until we passed a cop. Luckily the cop pulled him over because he kept looking in his mirror and slowed down below the speed limit. I just kept going 5 mph faster than the speed limit and ignored the cop,and passed the car. I did believe I was going to jail that night as I was still on probation. A close one.lol

All they knew is, Dad gave me the old family car! A Honda accord! So the kid got a job and put $30,000.00 worth of goodies on a $300.00 used car and now he can do the quarter in 14 seconds.

Its really nothing more than that. The generation following the muscle car era was brought up on gas sipping 4 bangers from overseas and all the US market had to offer them in the late 80's was the Mustang II? Hell, I wouldnt even drive one of those!

Sorry guys, there is just nothing you can do to a 4 banger to make it sound like a V-8 so we must live with the high-pitched whine.
What upsets me is in Movies where they blow up a beautiful old 69 Charger or 67 camaro etc.Sacriledge! cant they blow up a Toymota or Honda???

Well theres stock TT's with 270 whp and theres mine with 400 whp. If he kept up close enough for you to see in his car from the stop light all the way to 100 then either he was fast or you were slow. But the TT is just getting started at 100. I can hit 160 with more rpm left. And 1/4 mile drag in the low 12's, low 8's and sometimes high 7's in the 1/8 mile drag.
I've also smoked a couple stock new crotch rockets from 80-130. I would have kept going but he gave up quickly.
I hope for your sake it was a turbo you raced. A non turbo only has 200 whp with a lot of mods.

Edit: 750 whp build coming soon

I have to agree with Tadracer. These cars are the (for lack of better word) muscle cars of today. Not that there is any muscle in them but you know what I mean. I had Chevelle's and Chargers when I was younger and had to get rid of them in my 20's since I could not afford to put gas in them any more. The speedo and the gas gage both moved the same speed.

I do get anoyed at what some of these kids do to their cars and they look like a POS but they think they are the bomb. There are some cars out there very well done and the person behind the wheel is not a complete idiot but we still have to deal with the idiots. I agree, nothing funnier than blowing these guys off the line.

My son just bought a 2005 Dodge SRT-4 Turbo a couple months ago. I was not in favor of it but its one thing he has to do in life to get it out of his system I guess. It has the stock duel exhaust and I must say it has a nice rumble sound to it without being too loud.

Last night he came over asking for my help. He bought a BOV for his turbo. We installed it and now when he lets off the gas, you can really hear the air purge out of the turbo with a loud hiss.

I asked him how long till he is anoyed with that noise. He just smiled.

The SRT-4 will out accelerate anything Dodge makes, except the viper.

Actually we are in a second muscle car era, right now. Chrysler and Ford both have some mean new muscle cars, like the remade Mustangs.

I assume Chev can't be far behind. All three make big blocks with over 500hp, some over 600hp.

Funny they always start making these cars right when gas is at it's worst.
Nice day, if it doesn't rain...

This thread brings back memories of my teen years (1970's).
My 1st vehicle was a 56 Ford pick-up (oh to have that one back). It was bone-stock. I put G-60 x 15 on front and L 50 x 15 on the back. It had the original 223 straight 6 with 3 on the tree shifting. One night the muffler fell off, I left it off for 6 months. When cruising on Fri and Sat night I would pull the choke out a little when idling so it would 'lope' a bit like it had a hot cam. I thought I was cool.

When I was a kid my brother had a Studebaker Lark Daytona that scared the living crap out of me. As I recall it was a pro stock drag car before he got it.

I remember him embarrassing many camaro drivers we me white-knuckling the arm rest holding on for dear life.

Guys I hate to remind you but this site is all about Jap 4 bangers. Some of which, as Rob said, make lots of noise. I have not forgot what being young is all about. Lots of noise and lots of ohhh wait that was the 60's. Oh well.

                                I got them too!

Here is my block, not the whole city. Across the street and one house to the left, a Honda crx or something like that. looks like a white egg with loud pipe. Across the street and one house to the right. Another Honda egg with a pipe, only this one is black. My side of the street and 4 houses to the right. A totally rusted out gmc mini pickup with a v6 and very loud pipes. two houses further down from the gmc is a guy that has at least 3 Harley custom choppers. Very loud pipes. No danged wonder I am losing my hearing!
