78 carbs how much

I have a set of 78 carbs that are clean and rebuilt. My neighbor is in need of them. Anybody have an idea what a fair price would be? The only problem with them is I had to remove a proken pilot screw tip. It came out really easy and no damage to the carb. His #3 carb has a broken float [post right through the middle of the pin hole. I don't think JB weld would work there. There is only about 1/4 inch of post to work with.

You can make a 'battle field repair ' on them that has worked well for me. Use a small drill bit and drill a hole in the remaining post, that goes perpindicular to the pin hole, and use some safety wire to twist up and over the pin so that ity is captured in the remaining saddle of the original pin hole.

I paid $400 from the Bike Dismantlers for 2nd hand.
$200 sounds fair if in good condition; ie diaphrams

for cleaned, rebuilt, and tested, no less than $300. I just sold a set with a broken float post, dirty, and stripped screws. They went for $200 on ebay.

Hey Cokeman,

If your neighbour is in Hinton the by all means give him a great deal.

Otherwsie think of what it would cost to rebuild them. I know my dealer wants $43 a piece for the stock float valves and seats (172 for all four carbs). I bought the aftermarket rebuild kits at $15 so $60 for all four, but didn't like the quality. Nevermind diaphrams, etc. If they are rebuilt and tested I would agree with 81xsproject, no less than $300.
