  • The FJ lives!! (again)

Any of you who have had a bike that is constantly acting up.. but makes up for it in the few times it's been on the road... will appreciate this one... (I think)

I bought my FJ more than 13 years ago... one thing or another has been going wrong with her ever since... and life got in the way of getting her back on the road...
She sat while I worked on the XS... then she sat as I grew fonder of the XS... Some encouragement and needed parts were given by a very good friend as birthday present (Thanks again SO much!)... so I started working on her again in April... rebuilt the petcock... took apart the carbs (a REAL frustration when the airbox bolt is completely stripped).... Now... she has NO leaks...
More help was given by members here during the MotM to fine tune some stuff (also MUCH appreciated) and she is now road legal again (with the exception of state inspection) and still does 125 VERY easily...
    (gotta love the fast ones)

Thanks to all here who were supportive and helped to get her back on the road... Will be a long time before this smile is gone...

    Congratulations!!

I can relate! Feels great when you get them 'back', you turn the key and everything does what it's supposed to!

    Enjoy!

          Thanks!

I took her to meet John after work yesterday and hit 115 a couple of times on the way... *fear of cops after a speeding ticket in January kept me from going any faster... Then on the way home... 125... If only the traffic wasn't so thick...

          HAPPY Kitty...

Wow! yeah... I DO need to change my signature to reflect her change in personality... thanks for the reminder, tomatao...

Hey Da-Bubble... if you click on my WWW button there... then go to the page titled Bikes... you'll see a pic of her... She's also my avatar (but you can't really see how pretty she is due to the size)... She's still waiting for some airbrush work to tie everything together... but I like (love... lust) her...

I once wound one of those out in 4th. I have to say that's the fastest I've ever been. I figured I'd better not get one since I couldn't resist the horse power. Maybe all these years later, I could....

              My turn

I have watched/helped her, along with some of our other good friends, get that *$#@^ Fj running again. When she got back from that ride she was grinning ear to ear. I have only ridden it a handful of times, but I remember the smooth application of power, and the incredible acceleration, and she has even agreed to let me take it for a spin. I can't ride it very long because the seating condition is very comfortable on my back, but I should be able to do a few tricks with it.

Let's hope it's not one of those you learned from our dear Prometheus?!?

                        FJs' are BBTB

As in BBBaddd to the BBBone.I had 2 of them and both pulled like a tractor.I'd still have one except I never liked the buzziness in the handlebars right at cruising speeds...always left my hands numb. Also seat position was ok but the Corbin seat I had sucked big time...

I like the custom paint job on it, very unique. So no more leaky clutch or front brake, if I remember correctly?

Ben, you didn't like the Corbin? I'm glad you said that... I keep an eye on them when they come up on E-bay... but they're always much more than I'm willing to pay... until I HAVE to... I have a stock seat on there now... no complaints about the comfort... but it looks kind of tacky now...
and yeah... absolutely Bad to the Bone... the throttle response is SO incredibly different from the XS...
I KNOW I'm going to get myself in trouble...

with the XS... I don't have to exert a lot of effort to keep up with John... but with the FJ... I have to exert a lot to keep from running over him...

Yep... all things are working as they should Montreux... Our Dear prometheus took care of the clutch and John and I bled the rear brake... starts, runs and stops (reluctantly... due to the rider... not the brakes...)

                              Corbin Rumbleseat...Beware!

OK I know comfort is a subjective experience and OFC YMMV...however I had a Corbin Rumbleseat on my '91 FJ1200.The sucker was hard as a rock.Seat position cramped my lower body so bad I could barely ride 100 miles and my body would be screaming at me to get off an take a break. The longer I tried to stay on it the worse I felt. The very last trip I took with it was with some VietNam war vets down to the wall in Wash.DC.We rode from NJ down and back the same day...over 400 excrutiating miles...I ached for the better part of a week afterwards.I took the seat and sold it for 100 bucks and bought a stock seat....it looked bland but my butt didnt care ..it just felt right.....
Last year when I bought my '95 Honda ST1100 it came with the same G.D.seat!So I thought I give it a try...the first ride I took with the bike was a 200 miler. And I'll damned if the same discomforts didnt re-occur...and this time I started feeling it after 60 miles!Well I must be getting older as I cant take it as long as I used to..LOLIt took me over 5 hours to ride 200 miles because I had to keep taking breaks...I came home and pulled the seat and bought a stocker that I had modified with some extra gel foam and reshaped seat pan as well. Now I am in total butt nirvana...LOL
