  • Summer Windshield Downgrade

I have a Kutter fairing which is a Windjammer clone of fantastic quality, I think it is a little bulky for the summer,

I know, you Super Gurus will tell me to search, which I have. besides worse posts for worse things has been done.

What mini screen will chop the wind blast and take it over the helmet, any comments would be appriciated!!

I have the National Cycle Plexistar 2 windscreen. The top is about eye level to me (I'm 5'11") and it keeps the bugs off me. its not real big and the wind can come around keep your hand cool and also wind can come under the windscreen to keep your legs cool from the heat of the motor and highway.

Only thing I am not too happy with is the wind over the top hitting my helment makes a lot of turbulence. When I hit about 60 to 65, my head starts shaking and it kinda makes my vision blurry a tad bit. At first I thought it was my front end out of balance or something, but if I bend down slightly to get lower behind the windshield, it is smooth as can be. If I raise up higher, the wind hits my face shield harder but the turbulence stops.

Anybody else have any issues like that? This is the fist time I have ever used a windscreen.

If you can, adjust the angle, so that it is a bit straighter up and down. This should help to push the wind blast up and over your helmet.

I have the shorter version of the plexistar that comes up about 15 inches from the headlight. Great at keeping the wind off my chest but puts it all at my helmet. I get the same blurry vision head jerking around thing no matter the position I put it in. I was thinking of getting the larger one that is 20 inches above the light and seeing if I could adjust that to throw the wind over my helmet.

so the small ones are worthless?

buffetting is worse than naked chopper, style push you back in the seat, build your ads, windblast...

I know about buffetting, cause once cut my winshield to short and the knocking on the head was dangerous to ride with,

maximan had a luminar foil on his with the shield real short, i sold the windshield before i found out about this device.

do sport bikes with their short shields buffet?

It's a whole different animal... I ride without a windshield on the XS and obviously, get blown around quite a bit... but I'm accustomed to it and actually enjoy it...

With the set up I have on the FJ (aftermarket windshield but still similar to stock)... I'm into more of a lean forward position on the bike... air currents are vastly different... If I'm really getting on it... I lay on the gas tank and everything goes up and over from the windshield on back... no buffeting (buffetting?)

I know you had an FJ before... what do you think of the differences?

fj was a long time ago early 90's, damn time flies.

i seemed ok at the time, heck it was what it was, sports tourer

the xs can turn into so many different things, i got comfortable with it's utilitarian abilities, hence the hardbagger look,

when the miles click off with nary a pain anywhere including my butt ( nice king queen) and all i hear is the drone of the strong torquey motor, all is good with the world,

now i want to mess with a good thing.
              better get another pass time

but man, is it big with it dressed up

                Sometimes...

it doesn't take long to forget the differences... I FINALLY got my FJ on the road for a decent test ride today... EVERYthing was so completely different than the XS...
I grew pretty accustomed to the laid back style of the XS... backrest... highway pegs... Getting back on the FJ was like mounting a race horse compared to riding a Morgan...

Not that I had a probem with that...

What's the luminar foil you were talking about on Cody's bike?
                I don't recall right off...
(guess I could go find a pic)

I just have the small Street Shield (#2509?) from NationalCycle, I think 17" or 19" tall from the headlight, it works good to block a lot of the air, from riding with any. The mounting only took about 15 mins and it uhooks pretty easily.

                        Olebiker,

I finally got around to adjusting my National Cycle Plexistar 2 Windscreen as you suggested. I adjusted it almost straight up. Made a ton of difference.

                        Thanks.

                          Hi WildKat,
I thought we could get into a nostalgic discussion on J.A.P vs Matchless engines but then deduced that you were talking about Morgan the horse.

I have a small ebay special. Dunno the name. My head is just above the top. But if I arch my back a little(kinda slouch down) then I am below the turbulance at 65. And I'm 6'2".
But the big thing for me(155lbs) is that it deflects the wind from blasting my chest at high speeds while sitting up straight. And deflects bugs.
I had to move it forward more from where it is in this pic. If I breaked hard I hit the top with my forehead.
But I think a small one is worth something.
