  • i got ran over at work.

well i was riding through the parking lot about 5 mph and a guy back out of his spot and didn't even look my direction to straighten his car out. i was about 3-4 feet from him. i squeezed both sets of brakes and got stopped with the front wheel just behind his car. and he kept coming and knocked me over and under his back bumper.

i kept thinking please let my bike be ok.

the crash bar and mirror on the left side took the brunt of the impact.

i spent an hour after work last night trying to straighten the thriple clamps and fork tubes up. i think and hope they just got twisted in the clamps???

it is almost perfect now. it scratched the mirror and the clutch lever.

i really don't want to replace the forks.

do you guiys think that a slow speed hit like that will be ok for the front. i used to have a 600r that the po dropped at about 60 mph and it was a little tweaked in the front and drove pretty good.

i am just glad he hit the wheel and not me. i was looking at his head the whole time and he never looked my direction he was looking in his drivers side mirror and i was coming from the passenger side. if i had been in my car he would have hit me as well so he can't say he didn't see me cause i was on a bike. he just never looked.

he was very apologetic and want to take care of it.

i am going to get the part numbers to the handlebars, grips, mirrors, i want but i don't know if they still make the crash bars i have. the one is kinds scuffed up now so if i can smopoth it out that'll be fine but i don't want to trade for a different shape because these are swooped back and look sporty. plus the are pretty thick. if any one knows were i can get this style please let me know.
i'll take pics in a few mins of the damage and post it.

Glad you're okay...never ceases to amaze me how brain dead ppl are in thier cages....you'd think its in the water supply or sumthin'.I'm no expert on frames and impacts...but my guess is that you'll still be able to ride it.

Chris, I'm glad to hear that you are Ok! The stupidity of cagers never ceases to amaze!

To check your forks, I suggest this:

Place bike on centerstand and raise front wheel off of ground, spin wheel in both directions and watch for ANY wobble. If no wobble, good to go.

Post a pic of the engine guard, and I may be able to help on that!

I guess when you learn to drive they say look both ways when crossing a street. But must of failed to say that about backing up.

Glad to hear your ok. Parts can be replaced or repaired.

"Glad the damage to bike and rider was minimal."

Jackhammer... I believe you meant to say that that was how to check for a bent rim, not bent fork tubes.
Many methods to check for bent tubes.
Remove the tire and the fork tubes.
Take them upstairs to the kitchen (If your wife hasn't already cleared the table and done the dishes, I recommend www.beatyourwife.com)
              anyway...
Place the shiney part of the tube on the table and roll it around.
If the lower part of the tube doesn't stay in line with the upper part(bobs up and down, etc), then the tube is bent.

If the tubes are bent, don't throw them away after replacing them. Stand one of them in the corner... by your chair at the kitchen table. This serves as a visual reminder that the kitchen in your home should be clean at all times.

Another use for a discarded fork tube: It is exactly the right diameter to slip over the stem of the lower fork clamp and is used when pressing (hammering) on new steering head bearings.

Your local XS friends will appreciate that you have such a handy tool in your garage.... and will visit often. (have your wife make sandwiches and such for them.)

                It's a highlighted link!
Hell... I was just letting my mind roam... didn't know there was actually a site called that.

(Hmmm... turns out it's just a spam site... bunch of ads and such.)

Whew! Glad to read that you're alright; it's 'just' metal!

You should make the guy that ran you over in the parking look for the parts so he can stress out about finding and replacing them.

Did you file a report? I don't know about the laws in jawga but in Cah-lee-foh-nee-ya we have:

                            http://www.dmv.ca.gov/forms/sr/sr1.htm

                            Traffic Accident Report (SR 1)

If you are involved in a vehicle accident that occurred in California, you must report it to DMV if:

There was property damage of more than $750 ($500 for accidents prior to January 1, 2003) or

Anyone was injured (no matter how minor) or

                            Anyone was killed.

Each driver must make a report to DMV within 10 days, whether you caused the accident or not and even if the accident occurred on private property. Mail the completed report form to the address on the form.

                            Regards,

                            Scott
