  • July 4th, getting out for a ride?

July 4th holiday here in the States. Do most of you plan on getting out for a ride?

Rainy early morning here in NH but hopefully it will clear up enough for a ride as forecasted.

      EVEN THOUGH....

I only have one tank of gas left and no money to fill it, I plan to get out and run a few miles to watch a display somewhere around here. Still trying to decide which DIRECTION to go in to accomplish this. Im sure Ill catch a LOT of displays from one vantage point around here. I can certainly say there is a LOT to do around Hotlanta.

Dee and I put 150 miles on this morning. Not a long ride by no means, but enjoyable. We followed the Great River road that parallels the Mississippi. Went to breakfast, then to a dam. Then just a good ride along a route with few people. Tomorrow we will most likely go to Duluth which is a harbor town on lake Superior.

Did a jaunt (spur of the moment) around Turlock Lake, about 60-70 miles. Very little traffic. I used to ride my bicycle around this lake back when I did alot of pedalling.
Been on vacation since the 25th of June. Mostly been reaquainting myself with the couch and TV remote. Tomorrow I'm back in the truck and heading to Yreka then Clakamas/Portland.

Did a ride yesterday, not far ,about 70 miles round trip out in the country here north of Spokane. It was nice about 80 degrees and started to get a little overcast on my way back in.Saw two other bikes out there and a few cars. It's just great to get out of town and traffic and relax and enjoy the scenery.Oh yea and maybe wick it a little.I'll try to get out tomorrow and ride again, hopefully a long ride.
              Happy 4th.Ride safe Rick

My July 4th ride started Wednesday the 2nd. I'll let Kat tell more, but rode down to their house in Texas, then we (John, Kat, and I... Hobbyman had to back out) rode to Talihina, OK. The next day we rode around the area. Next day, Thursday the 3rd, we rode over the Talimena Trail to Mena Arkansas. We had beautiful weather on the way there. On the return ride from Mena to Talihina.... not so much. That could probably be seen as the understatement of the year. One word fits though.... MONSOON!

Friday the 4th, they rode with me back to my house. We had a really good visit. I have been to their house approximately 1,312 times, ( ) but this was their first visit here to my place. We were going to cook burgers, but needed propane. I went to get a replacement bottle at Walmart, but they pissed me off. So we ate pizza.... lol.

I rode with them back out to the interstate this afternoon and was incredibly sorry to see them go. Really great people and always a good time.... even when things go bad. Does that make sense to anyone else?? lol.

My total mileage for the trip was 1,004 miles.

John and Kat on the Talimena Trail...

I spent both the 4th and the 5th down on the NH seacoast mostly at Hampton Beach but also up to Portsmouth.

There's a section in the middle of the strip at Hampton Beach where every biker tries to squeeze into the limited parking spaces for bikes.

A bunch of us middle aged guys with our bikes doing our best impersonation of "Chester the Child Molester" or at least you can't help feeling that way with all the girls in bikinis all of 18 or so. Still, there's plenty of hot moms to make the trip worth it.

One big guy pulled up on a Harley with a huge McCaw or however you spell it...those large red and blue parrots. Talk about a chick magnet. I asked him if he ever looses it going down the road and he said "...all the time, I just stop and he'll fly back to my shoulder." He said he'll run 60 with that bird riding along. Not sure how that works but I did find humor and commented on the holes in the shoulder of his t-shirt from the bird clinging to it.

Sounds like a new definition to the term "Flipping the bird". Sounds smart enough to be able to train to rise up off his shoulder and poop on a car's windshield that is following too close! lol

Today, July 7th, I figured I had my fill of the beach since I went on the 5th and 6th. So today I headed up to the White Mountains of New Hampshire and rode the Kangamangus Highway. For those who aren't familiar with it, it's a strecth of twisting highway running East to West or visa versa for I'm guessing 35 miles. Along a good part of the highway is a rocky river that many people go wading into.

Ya just have to watch out for the moose crossings because the warning signs along the road aren't kidding. I had a female walk out in front of me a few years back. The motorcycle rider would loose in that collision!

Sorry, once again I didn't feel like dragging my good camera along so I used my phone camera.

My replay is a little late, but I was out riding Put about 200 miles on her on the 4th, and about 80 on the 5th. On the 5th I had a tent tied to the seat, and a backpack. Camped at my buddies farm. He throws an annual party which I was not about to ride home from.
