  • Forget the XS11, it's time for the DT1....

With the price of gas, I am seriously considering finding a headlight, taillight and electrical system for my '69 DT1. It's 250cc, single cylinder that was designed as a dual sport, although it's been dirt only for probably 30 years.

My commute is 50 miles roundtrip. It would be nice to do that twice on a single gallon.....

nice to do that twice on a single gallon.....

I've sold all my 4 and 6 wheeled vehicles except one GMC diesel van.
Did not know at the time that I'd now need a second to be able to afford to fill it up.

Vespa. Was'nt that the name of the princess in Spaceballs?

Fuel prices have caused me to start using my 11 more than I used to. Now, whenever it looks like I will not need my truck for work I ride in.

Very nice, even though it has been hot down here.

        Honda 90

My neighbor acquires Honda 90's and restores them for sale. I am thinking about gettin one for doing errands. Would be nice to go 75 - 100 mi on a gallon. I now costs a $20 bill to fill up the Pathfinder.

If you think fuel is expensive, look at bottled water.
Figure out how much a gallon of Aquafina costs you.
          Now figure cough syrup.

Enough of the right kind of cough syrup and the price of gas might start looking reasonable....

What a moronic statement. How many gallons of water or cough syrup do you use to get back and forth to work?
Hell I parked a beautiful Grand Cherokee and started driving my ranger again. Gas to work in the Jeep was 300 a week the ranger is only 150. The xs is 70 bucks.
By the way gallons of aquafina are about 2.00 bucks at walmart. I hate that whole compare it to cough syrup or water or shampoo. I got news for you a gallon of shampoo would last me 6 months a gallon of gas 30 miles.

I feel your pain!!! Whlist I usually take sprialing gas prices as a fact of life, I have become more frugal in my trips. My 8mpg truck usta get driven once a week to work ('bout 10 miles round trip), now its about every two weeks. My econo box Mazada and 4 banger Cavalier are the current weapons of choice when I don't wanna ride the XS (both rival the mileage on the XS). The lead sled Olds 88 delivers pretty good mileage for its size (18-19mpg city and 22-25 highway) but I find myself cruising the backstreets home to save a few bucks. I won't even go into the $$$ to take the boat out at 3.5mpg "highway" and 'bout 1.2mpg with the throttle buried. At 45 gallons per fill up, I have taken to drafting pontoon boats. The pain at the pump is extreme when it needs a fillup (and hasta be towed by the 8mpg Dodge) but I figure its the price to pay when you choose toys like this. It could be worse. When I lived in NM, it was 173 miles to the lake, one way. I am gratefull its a 40 mile round trip from Austin to the water.
Hmm, lemme think, three XS motors, tied together with a jackshaft setup, all three with big bore kits, could be an interesting repower project for the small block boat motor.
                      When a 10 isn't enough, get a 11. 80g Hardbagger

                        My friend

just bought a boat and it's in Havasu City and he's complaining about gas prices at the boat dock around $6.50/gal.

I just had to fill up the Silverado this morning. It took more than $104 worth of diesel. That'll last a week, if I drive it to work every day. I wish I could have bought more, since diesel went up twice this week alone. Ugh. In '04, when we went to Yellowstone, diesel was $1.69 a gallon. Now $4.69 a gallon is a good price.

I've been riding my Shadow almost every day for work. It lacks the XS11's power and cool factor, but it gets 45-50 mpg.

The DT1B, though. Here in enviro-frenzy Austin the cool factor on that would be through the roof. Vespas score hot young chicks here...

I have sold 4 bikes this year and I have to tell ya the 400's that get 75 MPG are easy. But I think any bike is. Well maybe not my special with the bent valves but it is not for sale anyways. If I had the room I would stock up and sell small CC bikes. Every corner now seems to have a new scooter dealer.

Our bikes are more relevant than ever!

Its crazy how we've gone through the years... to arrive at this point in time...to find that the venerable XS and XJ 11's are still as viable and relevant as they were 30 yrs ago! With gas prices out of control and going ever higher, getting around on 2 wheels is becoming alot more attractive to many ppl. After last week's XSEast Rally in Stroudsburg PA this point is only further exemplified by all the fine XS and XJs' that came from as far as Ontario from the N.and from Va.from S.and some folks from Ohio as well..so as long as the passion for these machines lives so does the XS/XJ11's...Long Live the passion and long live the mighty XS/XJ1100
