    Have just calculated my mpg - in both imperail and US gallons, 'cos I'm sorry but Imperial just makes more sense to me.
    This was around town and included some short but hard bursts on the highway - so not ideal cruising by any means.

    Us galon = 25Mpg
    Imperial = 29.1 Mpg

    Not bad at all.

    25 mpg sounds low to me. I commute 42 miles a day to work and average 37 - 42 depending on how hard I twist the throttle.

      I was thinking the same.

      Just got back from the 2008 East Rally and averaged 41.5 miles per US gallon with my XJ1100.

        Hi Si,
        Special with smaller OD than stock rear tire and hauling a sidecar OTOH the rig is driven by a cowardly old man. 27 highway MPG . Same highway MPG as our 3.8 litre V6 family Buick.

            The last trip I took I averaged 37.5 mpg over 1000 miles. XJ was fully loaded down. Lots of twisties and was not shy about using the throttle.

              Hey Ross, I guess I just ride like an old man. Carbs have been cleaned and synced and I rarely get over 60 mph due to traffic in the busy metropolis of hwy.27 through Sebring,Fl

                  I get low 30's, but have a hard time staying off the throttle.

                    i do alot of riding in the Hills here and canyons our Speed limits are 75 MPH almost evryplace i can run about 119 miles before that little light comes on. Im getting ready to do teh 750 FD mod and will se how that happens i also have a few Standard tanks if i want extended range. But i like to stretch once in a while.

                      I get 36 to 40 to and from work, 65 miles round trip, but I could probably do better if I tried. Nah! I've got a name to live up to.

                        After sitting for 1 1/2 years in the PO's garage and then 1 year at the dealer, I filled the tank and went on a road trip without doing anything to the bike. 39 mpg. I didn't think that was too bad.

                          Seems like I get around 33mph no matter if rush hour stop and go or freeway. But I do like to ride in the power band not just for the acceleration but for the engine braking..Can you say third gear? I love it.
                          If I knew I was going to live this long, I would have taken better care of myself..

                            One of the things I like about this bike is it's lug ability, you can pass through a small town at 30 mph in 5th. and then just roll on the throttle on the other side, it used to drive my buddies crazy that I could do that, especially the one riding a Honda CB 900.

                              I also run somewhere in the low 30's carbs are "breadtie" synched only. (yes, I know, a proper synch makes everything better, just haven't done it) no complaints with how it runs. will eventually get it properly synched but not today. still, low 30's in town riding, very few freeway miles.
