Does anybody what the "J" after the XJ1100 stand for. Does it follow a logical sequence that if my G is an '80, the '81 would be an H, the '82 an I, and the J an '83...?
There's a Yamaha Factory service manual for sale on ebay and it specifies it's for the J model. I will probably get it if it'll work fo my new/old bike.
Will it be compatible with my "82?

    J

Hey Cobia, I think the "J" is for an '82. They usually skip the letter "I" to avoid (or add) confusion with the number "1". Congratulations on your new acquisition.

      Yes, 'J' is Yamaha's designation for 1982. I have an '82 XV-750J.
Nice day, if it doesn't rain...

As stated, the XJ for the U.S. markets was an XJ1100J for 1982. They sold the bike for two more years up in Canada, so there are 83 and 84 models, but the speedometer is in Km instead of miles. The XJ manual will work for any of them since there is essentially no changes in those three years.
