I usually don't post things like this... but this kid is absolutely amazing! Check out some of the other videos he has on You Tube if you like this one...

That kid is awesome. This past Christmas, my 13 yr old said he wanted that video game, "Guitar Hero". Instead, I bought an electric guitar for him and one for myself so we could both learn. I figured if he was willing to put a ton of hours into a game, why not learn the real thing.

And what's wrong with Guitar Hero?!?
Just finished kicking some *** online just a few minutes ago. And yes, I have tried an accoustic before, figured if I ever got back into the real thing I'd go for bass next time.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have 2 online lives to check up on.
Well, I've been using a CD-ROM electric guitar lessons and it was coming along pretty good....until I got to where I had to get my fingers to stretch in directions they don't seem to want to go.
I'm staying on it but it's gonna be slow.

I play guitar and bass. Bass is what I learned on. Made learning guitar allot easier. little bitty guitar strings play super easy after big fat bass strings. unfortunately, now my bass skills are weak because i have been playing guitar too much. Now the larger fret spacing and heavier strings are wearing my hands out to fast. I haven't played in awhile, but i used to play about an hour or two a day.
powertab editor is a good way to learn songs. It lets you download the tabs, then it will play the song along with you so you can get the rythem and helps you keep the tempo.
I used to spend hours a day playing. Now it's barely an hour a month. Being this close to Nashville, it just seemed the right thing to do Damn shame I don't like country....
That kid is definately talented. It took me a while to learn that song. Jimmy Page ran with some of the craziest tuning schemes. If I'm not mistaken, that's an open C6. Nuts.
I'm jealous of the guitar scene nowadays. Back in the day, finding sheet music (or tab) was a waiting game for when it might have been released in the guitar mags, or spending a fortune for music books. There is so much available for free online now that learning any song is much less complicated than it used to be. I've found music for songs I would've killed to have had when I was playing a lot. I've been teaching my son to play Bass (what I started on as well) and it's gotten me playing again more here lately. Hadn't realized how much I missed it.
I'll have to check out that powertab editor, 82. Thanks for the tip!

btw. guitar hero does help you get you with keeping time and finger dexterity. I'm pretty good at guitar but guitar hero will really give your fingers a workout. its pretty damn fun i have to admit.
I have been plinking away on an acoustic for a couple year now. I still suck, but I am getting to where I can play some songs AND sing. Not an easy combination. My recent great find of a resource is www.chordie.com. Bets tab site I have seen yet. I am constantly looking for cool, easy, mostly chords songs to learn.
and now that our son is showing some interest in one.. might be a good time to buy an inexpensive one (or two... or four... don't want the girls feeling left out)...
The great family learning experience... oh yes... can't forget the ear plugs for John...
