  • Baldwin Blessing of the Bikes

I was just wondering if anyone went to the blessing this weekend. I saw two XSive people while I was there--One really nice grey 78 standard, and a MNS probably an 81. I was the one on the blue 78 standard if anyone saw it drive by.

I thought the blessing was somewhat of a joke. This was the first bike rally I have ever been to, and mostly, I saw a bunch of yuppies on harleys. Call me a pessimist, but I feel that most of the "bikers" I saw in Baldwin were concerned with seeing how much Harley apparel they can fit on their person as well as their bikes. They might like riding, but I feel they are more in love with the thought of riding and not the open road. I tried to talk to some people about their bikes, but apparently I was not cool enough to waste valuable breath. That is, I was driving a thirty year old bike and only had a leather jacket on, no colors, and not a shred of fringe anywhere on my bike.

Whooooa, I might have got off topic a bit. Again, was there any other true riders at Baldwin?

    "And further off topic..."

Again, was there any other true riders at Baldwin?
    Sadly, Birch... probably not.
People don't go to large organized rallies to talk about bikes, you silly... they go to talk about themselves! Nobody knows each other prior to the event, so each participant then has to strut around and impress others.

Now, the difference is with XS11 rallies.
Now, I'm not saying that we're an unimpressive crowd... but we have no desire to bloat ourselves up in that manner. (OK, maybe I do)
    Anyway...
Smaller "make and model" themed rallies... are people that you already know, or met here. Discussion is bike related, or life in general related... as things should be. We don't live our lives just to impress others with what we wear or what we ride. We all ride the same thing.

I would never go to a big rally again. The only absolutly great thing about it was the ride over. My brother just got an FZR and it was the first long ride of the summer.

If anyone knows of a Michigan XS or similar rally, I would love to go. I love my bike and would love to brag her up a little. It would be really fun to hang out with a bunch of people who appreciate their bikes as I do.

I would even be willing to drive to ohio/indiana area. Let me know if anyone has heard anything. Is there a Michigan XS club (I am hesitant to say "club" but I cannot think of a suitable substitute) someplace?

Sounds like a scene from the movie, "Wild Hogs". Travolta, Lawrence, Macy, Allen
