  • Sometimes someone just looks over you

    Hi,
Today I was riding from Jupiter to West Palm Beach (30mi, or so) on the FL turnpike, and half way there this driver kept tailgaiting me. So I gave her a few flashes from my brake lights but she wouldn't let off. So I figured, hey just get over and let her through and be done with it. Not a minute later the truck two vehicles in front of her dropped one of these contractor-sized plastic bags on the road. I saw the rear wheels of the car in front of her leave the ground as they ran over it and a big blanket wrap around her windshield for about 5 secs. This, while we were travelling at about 80mph!! All I could think of was... had I still been in that lane I would be turning into hamburger meat!!!!
All this was happening in a flash as I was just looking at the events unfolding right besides me at highway speeds.
    Wheew!!!
I'm not a religious person but I was thanking someone above for steering me away from that lane at that moment!!
    Random thoughts here.

God apparently has something for you to do here on earth. the good news is you are effectively immortal until you fulfill your purpose, the bad news is that since you don't know what that purpose is, the only way to know that you've done it is that your time is then up. that's all I got, have a nice day and ride safe.

A few things come into play here.... and these are PERSONAL opinions only ... 1 There is no such thing as coincidence.. if you think about all the things that have to happen in exact order to put you into that lane it is mathamatically staggering.. 2 Whatever you MAY have done in your life doesn't compare to what your going to do next . 3 Every now and then I see or here about a GOOD thing that happens and question my venomous thoughts on the whole higher power thing .

so good for you and rock on... you aint seen nothing yet !!

So...God was looking out for you, and had it in for that gal who tailgated you.

            As an elderly coworker used to say;

"If you were born to be hanged you'll never die of pnuemonia"

I've come to the conclusion that there's a lot truth to that simple phrase and while I don't consider myself a religious person I do believe there is a universal justice system at work out there.

Glad you're still with us Cobia.

              Bah

Not being one to believe in ANY type of higher powers, all I have to say is:

There's a lot to be said for common sense and knowing when a bad situation could get worse.

              Nuff said.

Glad you came out A-OK there Cobia.

I find that while many riders are followers of a higher power many are not. To each their own, God gave us a free will and all are free to make their own decisions.

I figure most of my riding trips have been successful only because The Good Lord shows me absolute grace and favor. I pray every time I get on a bike. I can't tell you how many close calls like this that Ive had.

I’m glad we have a good God who cares, otherwise he may just look down at me and say, "you're the idiot that got on the 2 wheeled contraption, you're on your own buddy!"

                  Cheers,

                    Thanks for all the observations

After some thought on this, I think that my common sense told me to get out of a potentially disastrous situation and that maybe someone above wanted my my kids to have a father around to raise them properly. After all 10 y/o and 16 y/o boys still need a father figure to help them find their way.

Those boys will need that father figure long after THEY become fathers...
Glad you avoided a potential disaster.
