  • Amazing Email that HWMBO got...

Always wear your helmet. It might just cause you to live long enough to smarten up if you are as foolish as this guy was...

The story, in case it didn't come out when I pasted this is...

This kid was doing 120mph when he hit the back of the truck. The truck driver felt the impact and pulled over about a quarter mile down the road. When he came around the back of his truck, this is what he found...
    read to the end....

      snopes says...

Here's the link to the Snopes.com reference to the story. Snopes article
Unfortunately the guy died, but IMO, wearing a hat is never a bad idea.

        Thought so

The email that comes from is going around saying that the guy lived. He looked pretty bad to me, but you believe it until someone proves it wrong.
I'll let John know that the guy that sent that to him was misinformed, and give him the link to that story.
        Thanks.

          Saw that e-mail last year.

An even more horrendous story is the girl who got blown off her friend's bike wearing only a helmet, capri jeans, tennis shoes, and a sweatshirt over a bikini. She lived, after several skin graft surgeries and physical therapy sessions.

          Full story here:

            Hard to believe...

I used to ride on the back of my daughter's fathers Ninja with a mini skirt, heels, and a tank top. Course, I had a helmet on...it was the law...
I have been on the back of HD's with guys that at this point in my life I wouldn't give the time of day, doing 100+ mph.
Sometimes, you really wonder that there is a better purpose for you and your life, because some of the stupid things we do when we're young makes you really scratch your head when you're older...IF you live that long...
Everyone-make good decisions, and be safe. Even if it isn't as much fun as being wild and crazy.

Learned my lesson... spit off a bike at 55-60, no helmet. lots of road rash. Stupidity has it's priviledges... you learn that God is, in fact, watching out for you. Now I don't ride like an idiot... but don't where a helmet all the time either.

I hope you have since learned to not follow redneck pickup trucks with tobacco stains down the sides. As added insurance, you could gain some weight and/or hang on tighter so the impact of the offending spit will not be as effective. Also, never try to spit back at them in any forward direction while traveling down the road...

You were on a Harley at 100+ mph? What, did somebody drop it out of a plane?

                        I had one

Old one that is, was a '42 Springer, buddy seat, windshield, bags, tank shift, foot clutch. I remember that 60 felt like 100. Easy to follow it because it left a hardware trail with oil accents.......

Here in NY, the law says Hard Hats MUST be worn...but I'm moving to GA, where I believe there are no helmet laws. I'm still taking my full face hat and my leather gear. I thought about maybe grabbing a half-cap while I'm down there, and a set of goggles. I laid mine down last summer on a fog-wetted road and slid a GOOD 50 feet before coming to rest on the CENTERLINE of a major highway that intersected the road I was riding on. My leather took it all and allowed me to walk away with a torn jeans pocket and some sore butt muscles.

I was VERY lucky...but it's an experience I do not wish to repeat. Wear your gear.

PS-I also saw that video and pics at a biker safety website. The guy did not live. The after-photos are gross and very disturbing. The guy's hat was embedded into his head(what was left of it), his neck was broken, his face was unrecognizable, and his chest was crushed. The truck driver only stopped because pieces of the bike went whizzing past him at over 100 mph. But it still dragged the rider over a mile before stopping. Stupidity kills. Plain and simple. Gear or no gear, there's nothing to protect you from yourself.
