good morning! when i bought the bike side covers were off just put them back on, and now left side won't come off? whats the secret without breaking it or is it just a senior moment!!!!thanks

if your e is like my sg... My lock is located just under the front of the left cover and faces toward the front of the bike...
There are subtle differences between the different years and models... but I think you might have the same thing on your bike...

Hey Brokenarrow, don't feel bad about your blonde moment, I broke the tab on mine by forgetting about the lock and forcing it off. Now, I had to pay $35.00 for a replacement. And I'm not even blonde but I'm somewhat of a senior!!!

I got my bike in a pretty derelict condition and many things needed checking out and fixing up before a trial start. The very first thing was to get at the battery connections to connect the jumper wires and so the cover has to come off. First I tugged at the LH cover then I looked carefully. "What genius* thought this cover needed a lock on it?" So I swing the little cover aside and shove the ignition key in and it only goes in half way " Oh well* try it anyway." and it worked. One wonders where the designers' brains were that day.

Yeah, yeah, yeah... when I got this bike, the first thing I did was to snap off the little locking tab on the side cover.
Fished the broken piece out of the locking mechanism and crazy glued it back on.
Stiil holding.

It's a place to carry your "pink slip", and of course everything made is to conform to California standards.
Wouldn't carrying the title with your vehicle be a bad idea?
In NH, if a vehicle is over 20 years old (I think that's the limit) you don't need a title to transfer ownership and can just sign over the registration. There's a little form on the back of the registration slip to do this. No bill of sale required. Of course I would never keep the registration in the side cover. Much easier to keep it in my wallet in case I get stopped.
I've always wondered what they would do about a forgery, but it pretty rare in this climate for a vehicle to last long enough for this to be an issue. Except for motorcycles....
