  • Hazards of being "Fashionable".

So, last year there was a poll on how long people's beards were.

    http://www.xs11.com/forum/showthread...ght=poll+beard

    My question is somewhat related.

How many of you have beards long enough that you need to keep it in a ponytail to keep it out of your face while you ride?

Sorry ladies, but unless you wear your ponytail On-Your-Face, you need not apply to this one.

Lately, I've have a lot of 5-10 year old girls looking at me rather strangely...

I have a seasonal beard from November to late February. Helps keep me warm in the winter. (Working outside). Summer time I generally shave once a week or when it becomes irritating (listening to SWMBO's whining about me not shaving that is) wherever is longer.

Last time I had a ponytail was in my Senior year of High School. The Navy kind of convinced me that "High Speed, Low Drag" haircuts were the easiest to take care of.

Now Mother Nature has decreed that the prime area of Ponytail growth (back side of top of head) should become barren and infertile. Kind of saves me from Patricide as I had told my oldest son that if I ever started growing a pony tail or comb over in my old age to just shoot me.

I have a ponytail, but I keep it on the other side of my head, where it should be.

Had the boots and pants made. Think it cost $40 total.

The price isn't as surprising... as the fact that the pants still fit!

Forget Korea...think back to 84 again, but this time you're in the P.I. Subic Bay, Olonongapo, Magsaysay Drive...Bars, hotels and hookers...$5 I luv you short time, $10 I luv you long time.
Back in 79 we were in Pusan, Korea, and I had found a leather shop near the ROK base called Hieleah (sp?) Compound, and had beem fitted for a 3/4 length, wool lined, swede coat. Well, it wasn't ready when it was time for the boat to leave, so I told the shop I didn't want it any more. The 'Papasan' of the shop showed me a box of letters from servicemen who all ordered goods from this shop by mail order, and every one of them were positive. (Why keep the negative ones, anyway?) Well, I agreed, to let them send it to me when it was finished, so I gave them the $85, and left, wondering if I had done the right thing. Well, Shortly after that the boat was sent to the Persian Gulf because of the hostage crisis in Iran. One day while floating around in the Indian Ocean, I had recieved a large box in the mail. I opened it up and here was this kick-ass swede coat. The temp must have been over 100 that day, but I tried it on anyway. I was sweating like a pig instantly. I still have that coat, but it never gets cold enough here in Texas to wear it.
Sorry to hijack the beard thread, but when I saw the post from Prom about buying leather in Korea, I had to chime in. Oh, wait, I have a beard story. At the time we were in the Persian Gulf the ship relaxed the hair and beard restrictions, and even had an anything goes beard growing contest. Longest, most gray, best salt n' pepper etc...I had a full beard at the time, so I just quit shaving for three months. I didn't win aything, but I did get away not shaving for a few months.

Its kind of lonely up here....

....but, if I don't tie up the "locks", it waves around in front of my eyes. I didn't think it was too bad until I rode one evening last fall. It was really difficult to see the road by just headlight. Yes, my beard is long enough to reach around my full face helmet and get in front of my eyes! So I decided that I had to do something about it. I had seen a guy on his chopper with a long beard that had the "pony tail", and understood instantly what his problem was. Then it was just a matter of doing a little shopping with the young girls at the hair care isle

A few weeks ago, I was down in Texas for a business trip and had to drive to Longview from DFW. It was a particularly windy day and had predictable results when I stopped for some refreshment. I now carry a number of the 'tail bands with me at all times.

John, Kat, I have another trip to Ft. Worth coming up in a couple of weeks. I'm not able to attend any of the "official" XS events you guys have down there, but perhaps we can find a little evening time to say "Howdy"? I'll be down there May 5-9.
